Really, Really strange problem....????

Post by Cbrown1986 »

HI guys,

Well I have a really weird problem with my FTO...

Even during the day, my windscreen fogs up, especially if I dont have the de-mister on the windscreen..
If I put the heater on, it seems to leak a heap of smoke from wherever the heater is put onto, whether it be at my face or at my feet. Also, just in general driving, steam or smoke is coming through where the de-mister air comes from at the windscreen...

It smells funny too, like the smell of your radiator fluid when the car is warm.

I checked my radiator and it looked as though the cap had been leaking and also it was half empty. So i filled it back up and tightened the lid but still does it.

Also, even when the de-mister is on, the cold air comes through the face air con part too..

Do yous think this is an aircon problem or something to do with the radiator or..........??????

I hope that all makes sense.

Heater core,i had the same problem.Feel the floor under the passenger side floor mat to see if it is wet.If u don't have the cash to fix it straight away the mechenic can re-route some stuff so so it wont do it anymore.U just wont have a heater with this solution. Also check your radiator fluid level because it will be losing a lot and u don't want your car to overheat.

I agree 100% pretty easy to bypass just need to connect the two hoses going to the heater core together. But as mentioned you'll lose any heat or temperature control, it's either cold or not on.

You're probably looking at 500 bucks give or take some, dash removal etc. It can be done without dash removal. Having done it myself before I'd strongly recommend taking it to a mechanic, preferably one who's done it before.

And if you have a tip box make sure the ECU is properly dried out, Mitsi in their incalculable wisdom put it right under the heater latrix

Oh yes forgot to mention that one, my gearbox went into limp mode because of water in the ECU dried it out and all was well.
