D2 Coilover suspension any good? anyone got them? prices people have seen?

For 1000 I really wouldn't bother, check out bennoz's thread on his suspension upgrade, unless you're willing to spend big bucks (i'm talking, teins or equivalent) then there's really no huge benefit of going coilovers instead of a good setup like bennoz paid for.

After getting some coilovers recently its worth it but only if you want the extra height adjustability, plus some extra minor benifits of having a complete strut kit compared to your own combo of dampers and springs.
Also whenever you adjust the height you put camber and other settings out and you need another alignment done. On Teins you adjust the height by a large twist-nut at the bottom and you turn that to set the height but because you need to jack the car up to get the wheel off to do that its hard to know exactly how much to turn/adjust it to get your height.
when you first get em you'd get the height adjusted to a legal height for the roads and get a full alignment done by a shop, then only be adjusting the damping settings to suit the occasion. if you drive onto a race track and want to adjust the front height a few cm off the ground you gotta devise your own system of screwing the un-precise nut on the bottom of the strut to get a very precise ride height so its matched on both sides and when you set it back to the original/legal height (that the alignment was done for at the shop) if you dont get that perfect aswell, alignment settings will be out again.
Better to just get adjustable dampers i think unless you want to be extra competative on the track...

Ok so I have been thinking that I might not need coilovers or even a great suspension setup due to me really only wanting to cruise around in the car not use it for performance work, so know I am wondering if just the standard suspension will do what I am after or if perhaps I should go something a little more.
What I am after is a good smooth ride while still having good handling, the guys I seem to speak with up here are none to interested in trying to help me out they all just say "go coilovers", so I was wondering if anyone here could perhaps help me out?

A lot of people go for coilovers cause it is 'the mod to have' as far as suspension goes. If you are not doing any track work dont bother, its $2000 plus dollars that can be better spent on upgrading other suspension components. Lets also not forget that once you spend $2k on coilovers, you still have all the other bushes & links etcs that should be upgraded to compensate..... the struts are only a small part of the suspension picture.
Do yourself a favour, get some decent lowering springs that are also a little stiffer, ensure your shocks are up to date & not worn out, replace all the FTO bushes that are commonly worn out like lower control arm bushes, replace the droplinks, look at upgrading swaybars, look at putting in some adjustable strut tops to give you camber adjustment.
I spent about $7-800 on parts & fitted it all myself. Its looks good, its handles like its on rails & I spent half the value of coilovers...
