Rat-a-tat-tat!

Post by benm7 »

Gday guys,

Ive been getting a weird rattling noise coming from what seems to be the timing belt or fan belt (on left hand side of GPX motor). Its been happening for a while, but hasn't been anywhere near as noticable as it is now.

It only seems to happen at idle, and becomes louder when I turn on the air-con, turn on headlights, apply brake, etc. Its very odd, could it be that the belt simply needs tightening, or could it be something more. It sounds like a mechanical rattle if that makes any sense, like metal on metal and is rather high pitched...

Its almost due for a service and im gonna get it done next week anyway, but i wanted to get your guys advice first.

Cheers guys.

I'd bet it's a belt slipping, adjust or get some belt dressing to help it get a grip. Both cheap trials.

i think i know what you are saying. I have some noises comming form there and its either the belts or even the power steering pump. I think its just the belts and will replace these soon also.
