oil temp

Post by demonic_hordes »

i have this gauge instead of a clock and volt meter. I never see it move. I opened the back cover up to see a big black wire and 2 thin ones coming out. The big black one seems to go somewhere far but the 2 small ones have their wires cut.
What should I do to get it working?

The oil temp, the two little wire are most likely for the light and the big wire will go straight to the oil temp sender, you will need the light hooked up because that is how it is earthed, I'm not sure where the sender is on the FTO but most car I have seen them near the oil filter or near the sump.

no. its for the light..otherwise it will come on with ACC and not when u turn on your lights...

u need to check the sender as suggested and make sure thats all cool...not that I know much about it though..

I have the same guage and mine works properly. I was behind there the other day and I saw about 5/6 wires in a uniform plug for the oil temp. They connect to a sender (not sure where) and ultimately they connect to a temperature sensor in the sump plug. I'll see if I can take some pictures.

The big black thing? Well the only big black thing behind there in my car is the tube connected to the vac guage. Considerably thicker than the wires though.

The light needs to be hooked up, well at least its earth, thats the gauges earth, if its disconnected thats probably why it isn't working.
