Spark Plugs

Post by SilentBob »

Need to replace my plugs...

I know that NGK say the model is:

for iridium: BKR7EIX
standard:BKR7EKC-N
(does the standard code apply to platinum as well?)

*edit*
actually, i think its PFR7M that is used at the back for longer life and what most people use all round for simplicity? correct?
*/edit*

anyway, which ones should I use and suggestions on the cheapest place to find em?

Thanks

I would just do all in PFR7M
I have a guy u sells direct from the SAU forum. Bought 6 BKR6EIX (IRIDIUM IX 0.8 gap) plugs for 99 delivered to my door. THis are suitable for a GR...not a GPX.

Contact him thorugh the SAU forum.

the GPX plugs are not the same as the ones listed above as the heat range is not suitable...however he will sell u the other model for the same price delivered as I have already ordered mine. i.e. PFR7M as u said...these are not IRIDIUM, they are PLATNIUM...but hey wotever really.

On the GPX on the rear PFR7M are used, but I just used it all around, they are PLATINUM tipped, I think I bought mine around $21 each at REPCO.
Its a really expensive choice but I won't have to touch my spark plugs for a long time.

exactly

they all make a spark at the end of the day, the reason the long lasting 1's are on the back is cause they are harder to get at, but its really not such a big deal for the front.

why modify your cars a lot and worry $50 and put in std plugs? and if u have a piggy back or new ECU...have a look what it does to the duty cycle...

also ask anyone with a turbo and some mild mods....almost everyone needs some smaller gapped plugs.

emailed him today, hope he gets back to me

tried super cheap and they didnt even have a listing for the bkr7eix except in the -11 version which wont suit,
the plat plugs were 133 for the 6,
so 99 bucks for the iridium's would be a bargain

just wish i could find some cheap on ebay or something ;)

the reply was
"I unfortunately have to tell you that there are no NGK Iridium plug that suits the the FTO GPX, however there is a plug in IRI series that does.
This series of plugs are basically the racing series and come in heat ranges that aren't available in other lines, they are also made to much tighter standards then other NGK ranges"

this seems weird that no one else has mentioned this?
comments?

As NGK suggest BKR7E series plugs so we thought that these were the best suited for the MIVEC application based on the compression ratio and heat requirements - where the key bit of info is the 7 being the temp. rating. The IRIWAY 7 series plug is to fill a gap in their iridium tipped range and were only released late in 2005 I think. In the IX series there were no 7/8/9 rated plugs and the IRIWAY sieres fills that gap - where IX and PLATNIUM are the types of coating on the tip. IX is generally considered better than than PLATNIUM.

PFR7M are the PLAT. versions and consdered more durable than the BKR7EKC-N types. However IRIWAY 7 series is the iridium equiv in this colder heat range and the more upto date version of the PFR7M as far as I can see.

UAS also performed some contoled dyno tests on iridium plugs and found a 2kw gain at the wheels. I have read similar stories ona number of forums.

Spark plugs do effect the way your car performs. NGK claims the newer IX series (iridium) are better constructed and better inition capabilities and suited to performance cars.

In summary:
PFR7M (Platnium)-Minimum
IRIWAY7 (Iridium)- If you can afford it.

The price of the std BKR7EKC-N is around $70 a set
The price of the PFR7M is around $100 a set
The price of the IRIWAY7 is around $140 a set

(prices form Kudos Motorsports and more in retail outlets to the later 2)

I'm keen to get some of the IRIWAY7s and give them a go so i will order them. I can arrange a Group Buy if anyone else is intrested. I have also asked for prices on the PFR7M as another option.

If anyone wishes to contact Kudos Motorsports directly : enquiries@kudosmotorsports.com he has been looking after the SAU forum for some time with no complaints and all parises for really good prices.

Hope this clears things up.
