Mega pissed off over my side skirt
Hey guys,
My veilside type 2 sideskirt had been damaged quite a while back and i bought a new one from Carmate about a month and a half back. Only got it resprayed and fitted over the weekend, however it doesnt even fit the car properly! It has some cracks that needed to be filled in with sealer, but you can still tell badly that it doesnt fit properly. So now i got two sides looking a bit diff in terms of the fit.
My panel beater told me about it when he was trying to fit it, but there was nothing we can do because it was already resprayed. In addition the guys at Carmate told me it was the same one so it will look the same etc.. he didnt tell me that it would be very diff in the fit to my other sideskirt.
Do you guys reckon theres any chance of me getting a refund on this skirt because i payed $280 just for one (because they dont like selling in singles). Is there anything i can say or any threats I can make to get them to give me a refund on this?

How the hell your body shop did miss this?
They should have tried it first before doing anything to it…
Big mistake
Now that it has been painted as well, your refund may not be valid anymore, as it will look like, you have received the product, were happy with it, painted it, and then changed your mind and now asking for refund.

It does sounds like a dodgy panel beater to me. Like Max said, how can anyone missed when both side aren't even.

We told the panel beater that it was from the same place - and the guys at carmate told me it was the same piece. I think the panel beater just went and resprayed it without trying to fit it first. However, the part is still dodgy overall and it doesnt fit the FTO properly. Doesnt this mean that the Carmate guys cant do anything with it regardless of whether its been painted or not.
Im just wondering how i can get my money back from one person or the other because neither of them did the right thing. I dont want to fork out another payout to get this done again.

To be honest, since you fitted the sideskirt already, Carmate going to say its the Panel Beater fault, due to bad workmanship & the Panel Beater will blame Carmate for crap products. It will just keep going around in circle.
I don't think you have much hope getting money from either party.

If you've painted it already I think you've got no chance trying to effect a refund.
Unless you get an original bodykit piece, you have to keep in mind that you're buying a copy, which may have been lifted from another copy, which may have been lifted from another copy... etc. Generally no matter how good the quality some work will be required to fit (even if it's just minor sanding down).
Any experienced fitter worth his money will check a piece prior to painting, regardless if it's from the same source.

i dont understand the fact that why your panel shop didnt trial fit it before spraying.
with any fibreglass part, u gotta high fill it, prime it then test fit then spray, and finally fit them on the car.
so wtf is your panel beater doing spraying the skirts without hi fill, prime or trial fit the skirt...
Furthermore, if the skirts was dodgy, wtf would your panel beater continue to work on it and put it on your car...
i dont think u have any chance of getting your $$ back from either parties, panel beater or carmate. Not full anyway.
Ill be definitely asking questions about the panel shop... sounds dodgy:?

well the friggin rear bumper i got from carmate doesn't fit perfectly too which piss me off big time ... but they're right, you should have check if it fits before you spray it
The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problem.

you can call the ACCC or something... my friend did that when a panel beater did a dodgy job on his car, and took 1 month and the car had over 200 extra kms on it... and when he rang... they werent even listed as a automotive repair place now the place is getting shut down and my friend is getting a full refund
maybe you should do the same
