Suspension Question

OK, I have a suspension question.

I currently have Bilsteins in the car, which handle nicely, but are quite hard. This isnt really an issue at the moment because the roads in Canberra are pretty good. In a few months though I am moving to a property at the bottom of the Clide (Batemans Bay) and will be commuting to Canberra on a regular basis to work. This includes a 2.4km stretch of dirt road (which is not extactly smooth). I have taken the FTO over this route several times now and I think ill rattle the poor thing to pieces if I leave the current suspension in place in the long term.

Ideally, I would like something that improves the handling of the car, but without making the ride too harsh. If I can lower it a bit that would be nice too, but I realise that this will probably make the ride harsher too.

Will coilovers of some description help and if so which would be best for what im looking for, or

Can I do something to the Bilsteins to reduce the harshness of the ride (using standard springs atm).

or am I looking for a unicorn.

Any help would be appreciated.

Higher profiles tyres will help. But with suspension, its really hard, it comes down to personal. I might find one is soft, while other might find the same one its too hard.

I can't remember my rates & setting now, but i'm sure those who changed to fully adustable as well can tell u.

u prob just need softer shocks/dampers

if u get tein superstreet u can adjust em to the right level of soft and still have it lowered etc...and i think they're height adjustable too.

Umm, the only kind you can get that will fit the FTO - Inserts in front - full units in back. They dont make them any more - at least not as a production run - I got one of the last sets in Australia. Quite a bit harder than the standard suspension though.

Currently running 45 series tyres with 17 inch rims. Dont ask what kind - rather embarassing.

I'd probably steer clear of coilovers. Even the softest settings on Tein Aus spec HA's is f*cking hard compared to stock...

I'd be looking at shocks. Some Monroe or KYB gas should soften her up a bit. Bringing your tyre pressures down a little bit would also help. As when your driving for long periods of time, the tyres heat up & hence the air inside expands bringing the pressure up.

Try Cusco P Zero R, they make Tein feel likes pillow.

I have Koni Sports...dampening adjustable. Work really nice on hard and soft settings depending on your mood.

Kev is right the tyre profile makes a big difference also...my tyres need replacing...

As it turns out I'm off to my suspension place now to looks at the drop links and bushes...some a still making some noises..I hate noises...
