What gain from taking intake pipe?

Post by spetz »

So, a friend put a CAI on his MIVEC engine, with Apexi power intake filter.

The box is quite good, it is completely sealed and there is a large 130mm diameter pipe from the front going to the airbox.

Now, I was wondering, is it worthwhile changing the black plastic pipe from the filter to the TB? It seems restrictive, but will there be any noticable difference?

maybe a kilowatt if you've done a few mods?

people have taken the whole intake system off before on a dyno and doen before and after runs and only gained about 1 or 1.5, but lost maybe a bit of torque aswell, cant remember... also the bonnet might have been up helping air flow into the motor aswell

i think you need to increase the throttle body bore at the same time to get some good gains...

Yeah spetz, ditch the stock pipe. We did a before & after dyno on mine with the stock & new UAS pipe (GR version) it showed a 4kw gain. Steve I beleive saw similar gains on the his GPX I believe...

On my car on the dyno, it only made 1.2kw difference

But, my engine has some trouble (I think the dual intake runners don't swap over) and has no top end anyway
Plus, for my friend, he already has extractors, cat, exhaust, FPR, Magna 65mm TB and CAI

4kw isn't too bad if that's true!

I will be changing it on my car for sure but that would be primarily for looks

I got ~5kw atw with the UAS kit alone before the box was fully sealed and the new intake pipe was run to the front bumber.

I got ~9kw at the wheels with my new hi-flo cat and straight thru muffler.
