HELP!!! Speedo no go.

Post by FtoSam »

Just got back from pickin up my fto from mechanics. (New engine (MIVEC) new alternator, etc.) and it runs beautiful. but its all an illusion because as i overtake cars on the highway back to work im actually going 0Km/h.... so im obviously hallucinating..... or it just dont work. I dont want to take it back to mechanics. i need the car for work. any ideas on what it could be? Mechanic said he noticed it and checked all the sensor plugs and fuses and was all good.Help? I dont need anymore speeding tickets.

most likely something to do with the speedo drive that is located on top of the gearbox. take it to a an auto sparky they should be able to trace it.

I guess it could be the speed sensor is playing up, or it could be the speedo in the instrument cluster, take the speed sensor and instrumet cluster out and get them checked.

just the speedo?

...there are 2 large connectors for your dash console. One of them (the left one I think) os for the tacho and speedo. If its not fully in it doesn't work... you need to make sure its full in and do up the screws to ensure its all good. that might explain why its in and out all the time.

I think it may be. I put new dials on. and speedo gets stuck... i think the new dials are thicker... anyway i'll see how i go.

check the two elecrical plugs that are connected to the gearbox.. the one at the back if you disconnect it stops the speedo working... so maybe theres a loose wire in there somewhere
