Need new alternator, please help!

Post by logan »

I need help in finding an alternator for my 95 GPX. I live in Marrickville Sydney. I have it at an auto electrician at present and he says that he can't re-condition the one in the car. Does anyone know or have they tried replacing an alternator with one from a magna or a lancer that also use the Mivec engine or perhaps any other car for that matter? To get one from Japan will cost me $1500 which I think is too expensive. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks

didn't i reply you guys with a $440 brand new one year warranty alternator place?
The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problem.

Check out the "Stronger Alternator" thread under technical performance for details, but the current theory is that the FTO alt isn't as 'special' as first thought.

It looks like an alt from from a lot of Mid 90's V6 Magna's (and numerous other Mitzi's) is actually the same unit as the FTO one.
Just a differant part number.

Am going to be hitting the pick-a-part yards for a cheap unit to test this theory with over the next week.

MrDJ has kindly offered the use of his GPX for this but as babyDJ is about 5 minutes from entering this world that might get pushed back a bit.

Or of course if yours is completly dead then please feel free to give it a crack yourself.

Thanks for all your feedback as it is appreciated. Got my car back on the road with a reconditioned unit for $560. But will be better off for next time. Keep me updated if an alternator can be used from another mitsubishi though. Thanks
