radiator flush and changing coolant

Post by mivecboy »

I wanna flush the radiator and change coolant. According to the owner's manual there are 2 drainage plug underneath the car, but I only managed to find one. Can anyone clarify?

In the manual there should be diagrams pointing out the locations

You really only need open one. There's a platsic vavle under the radiator on the drivers side. Take the radiator cap off then undo that valve - it'll drain.

That won't drain the coolant from the block though.

If you really want to flush the lot you can either put your garden hose in the radiator & run the motor with the hose on - or you can undo the other block drain plugs - which are ass to get at & usually seized up nicely. They are on either side of the block under each exhaust manifold. Capacity is 6.5 litres including the header tank.

Um. isn't it bad putting a hose with cold water while the engine is running? Cos the cold water can crack the warn engine block?

If you do this you will need to take the thermostat out btw.

Its ok if its only for a few seconds. You'll only crack the block by putting cold water onto an over-heated block. This is as if you are cold starting in the morning.
