Photography & Blue lights

Post by Sparhawk »

You know your obsessed when you drive to the local makeout lookout at 11 at night with two slightly tipsy chicks, and start taking photo's of your car :D

But I think they turned out OK What do you think. I need to muck around with the settings on my camera a bit more I think. What are good settings to take a shot with mostly dark but a few bright lights ? I tried several different aperature and shutter speeds. maybe try a flash as well ?

I am in the middle of trying to replace my dash lights with blue LED's also. This is the effect I have so far using Ultra bright wide angle LED's.

Slightly tipsy chicks ay, so why aren't there tits out in those photos I ask you?

Anywho, did you take those with a p&s or a dslr? As far as point and shoot cameras go they came out pretty great in those conditions... i can't help you if you have one of those big expensive cameras though :P Way to complex for me.

Sparhawk, I forgot to tell you;
The best way to clean your new seat covers is by wiping off with warm damp cloth.

Not easy to do...

1. Tripod - camera shake noticable.
2. Turn your lights to parkers. Too much difference between the lights and the surrounding. If you are going to get detail in back of your car, then the lights will just burn out the front end.
3. Don't bother with a flash, unless you have a pro-scale flash unit (thing twin umbrellas or something like that). In-guilt flash good for about 4 feet.

Could try getting another car and use their lights to light up your car? Perhaps something to try....

Anyway, tripod, max apeture, turn lights down, and try again.

Oh, and get the girls to pose on the car....

Pointing another car's headlights at it doesn't work and looks really bad. I've tried.

Basically you want an illumination source going onto the car, not at it.......if that makes any sense to anyone.

yeah u want to create faint ambient light so that it blends into the night background

maybe like 5 cars evenly spaced out behind the camera with their parkers on or something

pros use an inside out white umbrella or white sheet or something.... it boosts up the light around without overbrighting like its a spotlight

Its a fuji s5000 digital. Not quite a DSLR, but I can manually adjust a lot of things. The first shot was taken with some ambient light behind me. the second was in complete darkness obviously. Both were taken with a tripod, but it was fairly windy (was a lookout after all)

I think a bit more experimentation and I can come up with a good shot. I just need my lights to look less bright, and be able to see a little more of the car.

Oh, and I'm trying to find somewhere the legalities of the blue lighting, but cant seem to find it on the net anywhere. I did read somewhere that you can have extra lighting on your car so long as it doesnt project red light forward or white light to the rear, but I dont know if its a legal document. Anyone had experience in this field ? Do the laws change from state to state ?

the 2nd photo looks like an UFO to me, not FTO :D
The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problem.

I dunno bout over there but in NZ its complicated (as always)

you are not allowed to prject emergancy services lights from your car but you can show "light" as long as you cant see the source.... ie your not allowed to see the neon tube... just the light it projects. make sense? me neither!

but some piggies tried to do my mate for having blue inted light bulbs as you are only allowed white light from the front.... he argued the definition of white as not all headlights are the same colour.... some are yellowy some are bluish.... AND HE WON!

Well, these two shots were taken at the same time, just as the sun was setting, but wasn't dusky yet as sky was still pretty bright.

This was taken as a straight shot:

This one I first pointed the camera at the sky and half pushed the button (so it takes it's light reading measurements, focus etc), then with it held down, brought it back down to the car and took the picture. Camera thinks there's more light than there is, so makes it a lot darker. Brings out much more detail in the sky as well:

Not sure how well the headlights would show up though... Might have to have an exreiment tonight.

Those are just my low beams. I havent touched those. I have replaced the fog lights with something much "whiter" and the high beam is next on the list, as they are the only ones left with that horrible yellow look.
