Well sort of... Sure, same belts to get off, but alternator is best taken out from underneath the car - also easiest done with removing the rear exhaust manifold as well.

Nah intake stays on. Just have to undo 2 belt tensioners & they all but fall off.

That's cool. Thanks for the advice Ben. I might have a look some time soon but haven't had many real dramas with the engine. Just curious!

Perhaps according to the manual yes but you can get the alternator out by removing some of the exhaust. Been there done that.

Did you have to pull the rear manifold or downpipes, Or both?

Both, with the right tools it's not that hard. Then it just takes a bit of fiddling trying to squeeze it through the gap but it does fit.

According to the FTO Workshop Manual you're meant to remove the intake manifold plenum to remove the alternator. It is a lot easier though to get the alternator out through the bottom. The bolts on the rear extractors are a pain to get to with a socket wrench.

That is correct but looking at it I think it's far easier to get off from underneath. With the right tools it's not that hard. Right tools being very long socket extension with nice ball joint end and nice hex sockets and some muscles.

Socket extension? or extended sockets? My socket extension sucks coz it's hard to manoevre near the driver side coz of the power steering lines there. Pain in the *ss! But definitely a lot quicker going under the car!
