Traction from both wheels, improved launches, more stable cornering with greater feel of road holding. So in general it provides better traction and drivability from what i have read.

I believe the stock GPvR LSD is a 1-way LSD, meaning it doesn't lock on decceleration but locks the wheels on acceleration. This is pretty much universal for most stock FWD LSD's.

It will help with acceleration out of corners as you just have to "point and shoot" the car out of the bend. Point the wheels where you want to go and then press the accelerator. Normal non-LSD FWD understeers a lot more as only 1 wheel has traction to pull the car out of the corner.. however both are limited by the amount of weight transfer on the car through the corner. If you're going too hot into a corner you'll still be ploughing through no matter what so you'd just have to sit, pray and hope the gods save you from the side/tyre wall.

LSD also lets you leave 2 black marks on the road if you rev and dump the clutch :)

How Common

Post by dstocks »

How easy are LSD's to come by?????. I have seen one on sale for about 1600 a while back in the for sale section I think. Other question - how much effort to change over. Thought this might be something nice to do further down the track.

you have to take your gearbox apart to install it... so its not a walk in the park... best to take it to a differential or gearbox specialist

Tell Me, is there a place to go to get 'USEFUL' mates, or am I just unlucky. A Mitsubishi Technician, now there is a friendship worth keeping.

The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problem.

He done my LSD/gearbox/clutch/flywheel overhaul for under $500.

It'es really hard matching these components especially when you need to get them changed.

hey akuma3, how hot are you going into the corners normally? it's very normal for a fwd car to understeer if you've got too much speed. it's just a natural way for the car to react so don't worry too much about it. the only other suggestion is getting your wheel alignment correct.

perhaps read up on cornering speeds and correct cornering and braking techniques or even do an advanced driving course... its amazing how many people lose it mid corner because of the wrong entry speed... myself included in the past.. ah well.. live and learn i guess

it's probly better to get the cornering techniques down pat before getting an lsd anyway... and im not try to lecture or im not talking from experience... everyones just gotta crawl before you walk i guess...

yes a normal tendancy for FWD cars when pushed around a corner is they torque steer! When too much power is provided to the tyres they naturally lose grip!

Thats why with RWD the power is sent to the back wheels, so the front tyres provide grip for longer.

LSD is a help in mid corner understeer only when pushed pretty hard though!

also...the more you accelerate (more it locks) the sharper the steering is and the faster it auto-centers when you turn out of a corner 8)
