Fog light switch

Hey guys,

I recently purchased an FTO and I'm looking to fix all the little things wrong with it.

When I got my FTO, the previous owner had replaced the standard fog light switch with an aftermarket DSE piece of junk. The original switch was still in the dash, disconnected. After inspecting it, I noticed that it had completely melted. Solution: new switch and a relay.

So the long and short of it is I need a new switch. Anyone got one laying about?

Common Problem unfortunately - they burn out. You are probably going to have to do the wrecker thing. Try some of these guys:

I just went to Leader Japanese Spares and picked up the fog light switch, aerial switch and the surround for the mirror cluster with an alarm led for $100.

Now I need to get myself a relay and wire up the fogs so as not to melt that switch again.

Since the aerial's already integrated in the back window, I guess I'll use the aerial switch for some other purpose. *scratches head*

Hey steve where do you put the relay, what sort of relay is it? Any help on that switch melting issue and why it occurs?

It's my understanding it occurs because people replace the standard bulbs with bulbs that draw more amps. More amps go directly through the switch and it melts.

I bought a standard automotive/marine relay and wiring harness from dick smith. It cost less than $10 for both of them.

I measured the points in the fog light harness until I found a pair that were +12 when the lights were on. Connected them to point 85 and 86. Connected the two wires that power the fog lights to 30 and 87. And that's it! 4 wires and the fog light switch won't melt anymore. I'm sure there's a guide around somewhere.

hey blasphemy,
i recently put higher wattage globes in and my switch went as well . is it at alll possible for u to send me some pics of your install?
