Importing a FTO...price guide
Hi guys, I am a newbie here. I've been into FTOs for a long time, and I want to purchase one. I'm looking to importing a FTO from Japan, and my mate is helping me out on this.
The car he has recommended is a 1996 GPX Automatic, dark blue in colour, with 40,000KMs. According to him, the car is in immaculate condition. I would therefore like to ask all forum members:
1) What is the price that I could be looking at for importing the car (including compliance, registration, shipping etc.? Any people who have done so, please give any comments)
2) Is there anything to look out for when importing the car?
I hope I would get lotsa comments that can put me on the right track and join the rest of you guys who own FTOs. Thanks!

Hey d_stroy_r, there has been a change to that. There are now two places in Sydney complying FTO's see this thread for more info

Unfotunately there's not that much coming through the auctions in terms of quality like they did pre-SEVS. I've been checking out USS Auctions over the past few months and the majority of cars I see are 150,000km+, and fairly stock. I guess that's okay for SEVS.
Any word from the RAWS as to how much compliance is at the moment?

So if the car in Japan has modifications? Do the compliance guys take them off? So in the end you get a stock car?
Or do you get all the modifications that are on the car?
I wouldn't mind a GPvR, say 1999 one if it comes up
With mods ahaha

U can Import FTO's again, because I am importing one at the moment, I'm importing one through Special Vehicle Imports www.svi.com.au, there is one place at the moment that can comply an FTO, I will give you the prices of everything, If any one else don't believe me that you can Import one, I got the auction sheet and tax invoices to prove it.
To get a very clean FTO you will need at least $20,000 or less.
- consultant fee $1650, you pay $825 first then $825 when you pick up the car.
- For the car itself and getting it deregestered mine cost $6609.20.
- Complience is $5,500
- customs and getting it here by ship - is around $4000
- other stuff like tyres $640
So total up my FTO will cost $18,400.

hardly seems worthwhile importing one? You can get a very good fto in aussie for cheaper then that without the wait.... Especially when they take all modifications of the car theses days and apparently *cough* burn them...
i imported mine about 3 years ago for about 16-17 grand on the road.. but they were worth more 3 years ago.

HKSFTO was imported as a normal import around 4yrs ago, but the dealer principle kept it for his own use for a while. Then Scracy brought it & then sold it to W.R (Current proud owner) at the start of this yr.
With the old SEV, mods weren’t a problem, so it was easy to import just about anything with massive mod on it.
