Centre console/Dash kit

Post by rnbboi »

Hey guys, Im new to all this. I just got my FTO and Im new to the forum oso :)

Just got a FTO Manual GPX... but Ive noticed the previous owner of the car cracked/snapped the plastic around the cd bay (centre console?).

I was thinking of getting it covered up by ordering a dash kit pack (aluminum look? 8), but I dunno if I should do that.

Or...Replace that plastic surround part.

Anyone know where I can source the plastic bit and how much it may be?

Thanx

Hey rnbboi,

Welcome to the club

Centre console surrounds in good nic are as rare as rocking horse poo.
May be easier to get one of the aluminium surrounds...

I have one of the stick ons you are probably looking at getting. Not a perfect fit, but will certainly hold things together better than what you have. One of the plastic surrounds on ebay a week or so ago was going for 89 pounds at the time I saw it. For more infor on the stick ons, see this thread:

I was thinking of going to some Jap wreckers and rip one out (if they have anything that is lol). But, im not too keen to paying a fortune for it lol.

Ye.... I might get the stick on dash kits instead.

Thanx for the info :)

Btw, I think ive come across an australian site that sells these sticker dash kits. Ill post it once I find it again ** didnt bookmark - stupid  **

Dash kits

Post by dstocks »

That will be the UAS kit:

Have a look at the bits you get compared to the ones offered on Ebay - they are different. The UAS one is also more expensive. I picked the one on Ebay up for about $170AU. It came from the states.

The problem with both kits is that some of the bits have joins in them (which kind of spoils the look a bit) and also the bits do not fit perfectly. If you look closely at the pictures in the thread I mentioned in the earlier post, you will see what I mean.

The Console replacement on ebay was new (not second hand). so there is a chance you will find one for less (if you can find one).

Good Luck.[/url]

hi, i m thinking of getting a dashboard kit on ebay (by bdtrims for GBP50). i m having my seats trimmed european leather after 2 years (AUD3000!) - black and silver. so maybe a brushed aluminium dash, but not sure if it's worth getting (if it is any good). anyone who has them from ebay maybe can advise. i m feeding on bread and soup now :( , cos i m dead broke (maybe i need to get my priorities right). cant afford a custom fitting which costs more than AUD400 in perth.

now i m off to removing my rear spoiler (maybe i can sell them for a bigmac)

I have both the brushed aluminium dash and the ebay dashboard kit.

Brushed aluminium dash looks great and fits perfectly. Look around for this - ebay is not necessarily the cheapest - check the suppliers listed on this page:

I wasnt completely happy with the dash kit and at the moment, I have parts being coated down in Melbourne. Yes, it will cost significantly more, but I think the result will be more to my liking. The bits dont fit quite right and have joins in quite visible places. Also, it doesnt always stick properly on the edges. Dont get me wrong, I definitely think it looks better than standard bland black, but my advice (for what its worth) - save your cash up and get it done properly

....Little Black Cloud

PS The kit looks like this fitted:

thanks 4 advice, i'd rather have them fitted properly and look good (i'm a fusspot :!: ) for a longer period of time, rather than short-term satisfaction. lucky i waited ...

yeah i do have the brushed dash panel and the deep dial rings. since i was getting my seats done in black and silver, thought it'd be nice if i could do something with the sombre looking dashboard (just applied some polyglaze solar care on the dashboard, so not bad for now). maybe will get a silver or aluminium looking gear surround instead.

The Ebay ones dont, and the UAS one has joins the same as the ebay one (although I havent seen this one). Im guessing neither would fit perfectly. The best would be the genuine one from the Mitsubishi accessories catalogue as it is a moulded kit (as compared to a flat one that has to be forced around the curves)

Nup. And there are joins in obvious places (eg The console around the shifter has at least 2 joins (2 pieces). The coating on them does look good however........
