White Dial kit

Post by Timnkoo »

Hi, I have been searching through the mass of white dial posts and just need something claified. I understand if you buy the complete dial kit...ie the ones that light up different colours themselves, you must cut the stock one's out....not only an irriversible procedure but also very fiddly (taking the tacko needle off etc). What I was wondering is would these dials-----> http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mitsubishi-FTO-G ... dZViewItem
require the cutting out of the stock ones and playing around with the needles? I understand these are just the faces not the lighting, but was going to try and put in the LED backlights myself (as shown in the DIY part of the forum).

What does everyone think? Also I have a GR not GPX but should still fit right?

Thanks guys,
Tim

The mulit colour kit does not require cutting out the original dials, as it can light up by itself, while the one you posted require cutting out all the dials as it need the backlights to shine through.

GR & GPX have the same instrument cluster.

the reason u have to cut your dials out is bcasuse the tacho needle doesnt come off, its not that hard to do really and isnt too fidly took me bout half an hour although i did lose a dash screw into the steering column some where. There is a needle that the tacho needle rests on and as long as u dont drop that its not too much of an issue, its such a cheap upgrade and looks pretty sweet at night.

Cluster Variations

Post by dstocks »

There is one variation in clusters though. I have traction control, but when my cluster lights up, I dont get the TCL light in the middle bottom panel (all I get is the light shining through a grey box). Others do get this light though, so that is at least one difference. I dont have the SRS light either (also a grey box - but I dont have airbags)

If anyone knows a little more on this it would be great. Im trying to track down the TCL light for my dash!

Has replacing those vacuum pipes on the throttle body fixed your Traction Control Dwayne?

    Nup,

Dont think so. Shooting in the dark a bit here. I now believe this hasnt been working since I bought the car. Having never driven a car with traction control before, im not sure what to look for. And still having a broken mount im not keen to load it up too much to find out. Have been relying on wet weather to test - easier to get a little wheel spin in the wet. Interesting thing is, I get a light when I turn the ignition on, but it only remains for a second before going out (same as most of the other lights in the dash). The switch doesnt seem to have any effect at all. I do have the TCL unit (have checked) but I dont have the little TCL picture in the cluster. This could be my fault as when I sold my last FTO, I swapped clusters (they both has 95XXXkm on them, but the one from my current fto had a broken leg on the cluster, so I put in the car I sold). Didnt realise at the time that the clusters varied. Having said this, the guy I bought the car off had originally bought it off a Mitsi dealer in QLD who told him there wasnt a dash light for the TCL.

I havent actually replaced hoses yet - going to do that next. But when I posted before, some of the hoses had popped off.

So, to cut it short (or long), currently have 2 problems with TCL - Firstly it doesnt work, and secondly, missing the picture in the cluster.
