Group Buy: Front Brake Kit Upgrade Proposal

Post by jc133480 »

Hey all, I’m getting really close to having to do major surgery on my front brakes & disk etc.

This is typical for most 95 GRs as they are only good for 100000Ks, which most people should have reached by now. Actually after looking at some for sale adds on carsales.com.au it looks like I've not been driving mine enough. (On 95K as compared to the average 135K)

Anyways I want to get an idea if people are interested in a group buy for a full brake kit. I'd be willing to organise it.

GRs/GPXs

As a standard I would be thinking
2x 16" rotors front
2x 4 pot callipers
2x pad sets - type depending on rotors
1x pair braded lines

In terms of brands etc, I think we would need to shop around and then decide based on quality/price.

I would think in a group buy of 10+ we should be able to get a reasonable branded set for $1000 - $2000, given some more expensive sets I already priced are around $2200 - $2800.

Yes this would be a lot and there are a number of group buys on at the moment, but buying in numbers is power and I am sure there are a number of people out there that have looked at this already.

Yes I know the GPX has 2 pot callipers and slightly larger rotors

I spoke with Kempy's Mitz in New Zealand and they assured me the GR can use the GPX kit, the major issue is "trimming" or removing the stone guard on the inner side of the disk. Obviously the disk and callipers must match etc.

The specs of the items above would be fairly "generic" for both GR/GPX points of view, that’s why I suggested them.

Ok now flame away, or if your in need like me get some action going see if we can pull this off before FEB next year.

;)

There are great kits on offer already in the forum, check out the link below.

Excellent price, one of the best brake upgrade kit.

No need to worry about waiting, or hassle for a group buy.

If you aint got 1500 to spend, the GPX calipers bolts straight onto the GR - use the GPX disc gaurd as well. Put in some uprated pads (EBC or similar) and get your hands on a cross drilled GPX disc rotors... thats how I brought my GR back to life in the braking department.

Stops on a dime & get almost no fade when hot

Having said all that - Im doing more trackwork in the car & seriously thinking of going with the UAS upgrade.

still using GR master cyclinder, you get more travel in the peddle, but it all works fine

if you go any large or more pots you will need to upgrade master cyclinder too
