Drove pass one the other day on the fwy on the way to Uni.
Didnt know it was the new 380 until I got closer to it, and wanting to see the front, sped up to the side of it and had a glimpse at the front and the driver, haha
.
Like the back, hate the front. The front still looks awkward - those headlights.
But its damn BIG, looks like a Holden Statesman or somethin far away.
Since wer on the Mitsu topic, anybody driven the MIVEC lancer? If so, thoughts?

The front is kind of awkward. But I read (we don't have any over here yet) that it is a very good car.
One thing I don't get is why they continue to go with low tech engines. IIRC the 3.8 V6 is still SOHC with no variable valve timing at all. Whereas some of the competition have had DOHC and infinitely variable valve timing for years. I hope they're not stuck in Falcon and Commodore mode where they stick with the old tech for years
Also, where's the MIVEC version from the Eclipse?

I dont mind it - but it certainly doesnt grab my attention.
From all reports, it has everything in the right places & power figures are ok, but the car is lined up for direct competition with the Commodore & Falcon.... and if you are going to break into that sector of market, it needs to have a either a V8 option or as others have said a high power motor.
Mitsubishi have apparently got the house & mortgage on this car - they have spent a fortune developing it & redesigning all their manufacturing plants with high tech gear to punch them out the door in numbers.
If it fails, Mitsi will be forced to close its Australian manufacturing arm... thats how down to the wire this car is for them.

Yeah don't mind it, its doesn't look too bad for an 90% Australian build car, as afterburner pointed out, why do they wait till 2008/09 before they drop the DOHC MIVEC 3.8L is beyond anyone guess.
I guess someone have to take it for a drive to find out how well the interior & handling is.

I did drove 380, and Mivec Lancer as well, they are very nice to drive, on 2.4 Mivec lancer, they are much more power than 2L, very similar to my GR, but of course if you rev it up, it's not as good as the FTO.
380, firm suspension and powerful, a bit expensive on entry model compare with Ford and Holden, but lexury model, they are cheap!

Why ppl so concern about getting beat by others, it doesn't matter what you drive, there always someone going to beat you.
As long as you happy with your ride, who give a toss about what other going to do with they "fully sick" car.

i agree and disagree...
for those times at the lights.... (yes im immature at times) it is nice to beat the car next to u... if i start getting flogged by corollas , lancers etc... yes my ego will be hurt and yes i will be sad.....
sorry but half the attraction of having a sports car is beating other cars

Well in that case you going to have a hard time on the road with the FTO, its a 10yrs old car for god sake, so you will lose power as the years go by due to wear & tear.
And cars like Corolla Sportivo, Astra SRi, Focus RS, maybe even the new Lancer will run you over if you not carefull.
To me a sports cars is about better handling then the average sedan, & also it make you feel good when you driving it, not some traffic lights hero.
Isn't that what the FTO is all about?

of course Kev - i know all these things - I bought the car for its looks mainly (interior and exterior), styling and the fact it has a bit of go... I realise there are much quicker cars, and that its only going to get harder... it wasnt quite the case when i bought the car 3 yeasr ago.
Having said that, people must still be concerned with its perfomance thats why we all want/own cat back exhausts, extractors, CAI etc etc....
Im not saying its be all and end all but I certainly know why some people are concerened with 'beating' other cars
its the same reason car mags etc always quote KW's and 0-100 times... its what people often want to know.

Performance & traffic lights hero are two different things heehee
Some people getting performance parts so they can have better mauver on long winding trip or during over taking. And car mag quotes 0-100 & ¼ miles are only to compare the basic performance, how often does the winner of "Car Of The Yearâ€
