insurance etc?

Post by effigy »

Hey guys, i'm sure this has probably been asked a million times... i tried to search it but so many responses etc hah.

I'm only 19 (as of monday anyways), and as some of you may know i'm in the market for buying an FTO (preferably either a GPS or a GPvR). Now, as far as insurance goes, for full comprehensive, what sort of premium would i be looking at ? i should probably call around, but thought i'd sound you guys out first. I mean, my VS commodore is insured with QBE, and i'm paying $1000/year for it, which in my opinion aint too bad. I've never had a crash in the 2 years i've been driving etc...

any ideas? or should i just give a few insurance companies a call? if so, which companies do you's recommend?

(i'm just trying to work out how feasible getting an fto in the next few weeks will actually be, as i've just quit my fulltime job and going back to casual lol)

thanks heaps!

lol. okay.

Since your 19, well i would say comprehensive insurance is pretty much out of the question... 3rd party is the way to go...

Reasons:
> because of your age, most companies will not insure under 21 with the FTO
> If they do it will be about 4+ k a year with massive excess

Now, i'm almost 22, with a NCB of 30%. I just signed up with Young and Cool for 1.7k a year... and thats the cheapest i could find. Highest quote i get was 2.8k

Some companies from the top of my head:

> Just Cars
> Unique Insurance
> Famous Classic Insurance
> Dawes
> Young & Cool

Good luck in the hunt, most people that i know that are in that age bracek tend to have 3rd party with the FTO...

Ah ok, thanks for the info Boris! One other question, if i was to put my dad down as the owner, and i was just a driver... would the price of comprehensive go down? because i'd prefer to have comprehensive just to sorta cover me a lot more.

thanks again mate!

The good old days of putting yourself as just a 2nd driver is gone. All insurance company now look at the youngest driver on the list & price it from there. So its either you won't be on the list, which mean you can't drive it or the insurance its going to be sky high from $4000 & up.

Please note insurance company will quote you more if you try to do this 2nd driver trick. So its not worth even a try.

You can try just putting it completely under your dads name, if the insurance company allows people to make a claim if say, you by accident crashed it. donno... the excees will probably sky high but..

Insurance aint that simple these days anymore, all i have to say is, THANK GOD i'm not 19 with a sports car!

Effigy,

I'm 19 and have only just been driving for a year now (about 9 months when I got the FTO) and no place would insure me for compo at all.

And any place that does say yes to your inquiries.........will charge you sideways through the arse for it.
