Front hub castle nut won't budge - DONE
Can't get the front hub castle nut off, broke the breaker bar trying and my rattle gun won't shift it either.
It's not opposite thread is it? (passenger side)
I'm trying to undo anti-clockwise.
(Rowans car, pulling the box and engine)

Not reverse threaded, no.
Just muscle up boss, not much else you can do. Big cheat bar if you have one lying around. Even a long piece of PVC pipe will do. I have a 10 foot long cheat bar for that kinda sh*t.
Or get a better rattle gun.
Hit it with heaps of WD40 and/or crack out the oxy..
Alternatively, hit your breaker bar with a rubber mallet or hammer if you have to while holding anti clockwise tension.

Re: Front hub castle nut won't budge
Thanks.
Had a long trolley jack extension bar (1.5 metres maybe) over the breaker bar and the breaker broke at the knuckle. Need a better breaker bar! (had this one for years)
Someone must have put this on too tight previously surely, I've had these off other fto's without problem.
Tried heat too from a MAPP gas torch.
Think I will spray loads of wd40 on and leave it over overnight and go get another breaker tomorrow.

This car of Rowans is shite though.
Getting the nut splitter out, screw his nuts.
(This is a good idea right?)
EDIT: couldn't wait till morning.

Ouch!
We had the same issue with a Subaru hub, broke 2 good breaker bars...
Thankfully under lifetime warranty so got even better ones in return

Re: Front hub castle nut won't budge
You can use an angle grinder with a grinding disc.
Grind away one flat side of the outside of the nut and stop just before you reach the thread.
Then undo it or break it away.

Thanks Phil will try that if I get stuck.PHIL069 wrote:You can use an angle grinder with a grinding disc.

Rowan went out and bought a big kincrome breaker bar that is beefier than the one I broke so will give that a try shortly. The guy said it's got a lifetime warranty anyway.

I used a 1” SQUARE DRIVE breaker bar and that did the trick. It has been successful on 2 FTOs now.
Me? Bitter? f**k no. I think it's hilarious.

Re: Front hub castle nut won't budge
Done, new breaker bar didn't snap - made a hell of a crack noise when it undid the bastard, other side cracked off too.
Thanks for the advice people.
Anyone happen to have the part number handy for the hub nut as I marked it with the nut splitter?
