Yep, thats me that wrote that (my site). When I wrote that I didnt have the info on when the problem was resolved and it was only starting to appear on some FTO's. 10 years later there are a lot more with the issue. Basically, the glue holds moisture and the roof rusts from the inside out. Remove the glue and prime to be safe. Ive done that with my son's version R as well just to be safe.

if you've got no sunroof, then yes you should be able to do it with the roof lining removed.

So after removing the existing glue do I need to replace it with other glue?

Nope, doesnt need it. Just apply rust converter and a spray primer (can is fine)
