EVO 8 conversion

I started with a 7 grand budget. Turned into 25 grand... and I'm only FWD.

Which is also a previously-done conversion (6A13tt which is fairly known to us FTO folk - whereas Evo 8 is completely new territory)

Also, Ben, was a huge chunk of your labor done yourself? Didn't you also source most of your own parts or?

Shops will put a mark-up on any parts they supply usually.

I did. I did a full timing belt / water pump / cam seals etc service on the donor motor. Also did clutch & gearbox rebuild. The sh*t that adds up, is the sh*t you don't think of, the unforseen requirements to weld up a clutch slave bracket, the need to fabricate up a new exhaust Y-pipe, the need to upgrade to harder rubber engine mounts, the brakes etc. It's a killer.

In other words, don't f**king do it lol. I got quoted 3k just to have an alternator replaced, 12k won't cut it especially for unproven things like an 8 conversion.
At least go with things from the same generation..
Or better yet, turbo the thing, you'd get by comfortably-ish with that budget from what I can grasp.

Why are we on such a role to demotivate this guy to do the conversion its highly possible!

Mate i think your best bet to acheive this conversion is to take everything off of the car, strip the loom out of it, doors skins, dash, interior so you know what you are working with give it a really good clean up.

Now because you have all the parts stripped out of it you can start selling what you dont need to pay for the evo conversion parts. You can sell off the engine, brakes, loom interior parts etc etc.

Probably your best bet is waiting on a good deal on your evo gear.

While your waiting you can start polishing up and cleaning all your engine bay ancillaries like your wiper motor and other interior items.

i still will go ahead with conversion but now not sure if evo 8s the right choice.

Anything can be done if you throw enough cash at it. Most people haven't done it, based on the cost.. I have seen 1 FTO/Evo conversion in the flesh, and most of the work was done by the owner and his Son ... With some mechanical help ...

But given the expense they put in to it, they were not really in the sharing mood too much. Which I can understand...

My advice.. Take your FTO to Meek, and ask them for a quote. These guys do the conversion to Lancers and will be the best people you could talk with...

Alternator is easy?

Take wheel off, loosen belt tensioners, remove belts, remove top engine mount, jack up motor, remove alternator.

Something I'm missing? 1 man could do it about half hour each way. 2 of us had the car back together in under 20 minutes once I got my alternator back from rebuild...
