Most FTO's going for that price tend to have rotting issues - over here the FTO's generally aren't undersealed. I bought mine for £530, but have since dropped around £2k on it. The majority of which went on sorting out the rot. The rest has gone on structure improvements. I've yet to tackle the roof or engine bay rust, but these are next on the list.
Those that have sorted out the rust and given the car a new lick of paint tend to get the car independently valued. The last guy had his FTO valued at £8k. This is my target, but the hardest part is parting with £3k for the paint job!
