Tip Box

Post by BuCkEt »

Well I think my gearbox is slowly dying.

My gear changes are getting worse and it's quite obvious the gears are not changing as they should.

Upon pushing the tip lever up to change gears I am met with a shudder as the car keeps climbing rpm wise before it finally thunks back into the next gear.

Not only is the "thunk" clearly felt, but it is obvious to anyone nearby that my car is having problems as they hear the car strain to change gears.

Now I've tried other solutions presented to me by others, such as fuse swaps and transmission oil/filter swap and still she struggles.

Ultimately my question to you all is - how many of you have had major issues with the tiptronic box that resulted in you needing to have it looked at by a transmission shop? How much did it end up setting you back?

My worst fear is that I will need to replace the box, despite this having been done by previous owner (apparently the "new" box only had 40k kms on it).

It's painful everytime I change gears as I hear my baby strain to do it.

car ever go into limp mode?

I had a similar issue with really bad gear changes but it turned out that the input speed sensor was at fault got a second hand one for $70 and the gear changes have been great ever since.

Check using the ftowa diag light mod and see if your getting a 22 (or i think 23 for output speed sensor) as these directly affect the gear changes.
