Newbie
Hey,
I have had my FTO for about half a year, it is my first car and I have been on my P's for about 1 week. It has a sunroof, sub-woofer,
electric fold in mirrors, great rims (black with a red line on the outside) and a great sound system.
When I bought, two weeks later I found it starting to leak oil, I looked under the car and did not see much.
I got a mechanic (automobile) to come and look at it and they told me it was the head gasket and it would cost
$2000+ to fix it. I find that weird because I hadn't notice any performance issues and still drives well.
I have not done anything about for about 3 months and it still drives well, so I believe it is something else.
I decided to look it at myself and try to fix it, but I have no idea what I am doing. Also my air con does not work
so I need to get that fixed because I have been dying in this Australian heat.

WTTC. Put some pics up of the car and the leaks.
Then we can all help you more
.
Depending on the leak it could be easily fixed, not necessarily the head gasket.

There are two types of people on forums; those that give helpful advice, and the others

Re: Newbie
Head gaskets normally leak water when they go, not oil. How much oil is it using?

Re: Newbie
I'd take a guess and say it's the rocker gaskets..
Did them on my old Mazda, took an afternoon

It leaves a small puddle on the ground over a night,
but every time I check the oil levels it does not go down very much

Hmmm, puddle isnt good. You need to get in there with a torch and find out how low down the leak is originating from.Could be the rear big end bearing as they are renowned for leaking (mind you, could be plenty of other places as well).

Re: Newbie
Cam seals
Rocker gasket
I'd put my money on those more than the head gasket.
By the way Dwayne, dependent on where the gasket let go, the head gasket could leak oil. Happened on my RVR.
WTTC, car looks good in that color, not too much a fan of those wheels.
