Thought I'd post an update on the FTO

Post by FTO-Love-Affair »

So, after a few months and not being on here all that much, I thought I'd give an update on the FTO.
On August 22I lost my licence for 3 months (Speeding, I can never help myself), so I took the opportunity to fix a few things.

The previous owners had done a Manual conversion, but the gearbox they put in it was sh*t, crunching through every gear, and slipping out of 4th less then a second after you put it in every time. The mechanic advised me that it'd be cheaper to replace the gearbox then fix it. So I took it to a transmission specialist and they flat out refused to touch the car. So I went back to my mechanic and parked the car there. It didn't last long there though, as mum decided to drive it to work. Every morning she couldn't help herself but burnout from the lights and drag everyone. My mother. LOL.

Anyhow, I eventually found a gearbox on eBay for $600 that was up on the Gold Coast I think, and they threw in the drive train, clutch, cables and stuff for freebie extras. Add $200 for shipping to Dubbo and done. The mechanic then found that my original and the other clutch were both worn to the point the grooves were almost non-existent, so got a brand new clutch and installed it with the new gearbox. Now, with my licence back the car is running the best it ever has, and the only work I need to do to it is purely cosmetic.

I've also changed a few plans for it, ditching the idea of getting red tinted windows and grill.
So what plans I have left now are:
Paint calipers red
Respray entire front bumper and patch on drivers front side panel
Stick my red MIVEC stickers on the sided panels
Buy the red FTO cutout
Buy some higher quality speakers to put in the doors (Pioneer 6x9's and 10" sub in the back already)
Red and black leather seats with the FTO logo

And then in the very long term, I've been quoted about 4k to get rid of the Pyreness Black, replace it with a jet black with a red fleck through it, but that is a few years off as I'm heading to university soon.

I also have changed the number plates because I was sick of being pulled over by the police even when I was driving sensibly and the police telling me that I was someone else, EG the drug dealers I bought it it from, and when they find out I'm not the dealer they then lecture me every time that the HKS Super Dragger cannon is illegal, which I researched and found that technically anything that isn't factory on a car can be defected if it is found to be louder. Mine is MUCH louder.

Also, I have a noob question. My car has the factory option rear screen wiper installed, but I'm unsure as to how to operate it. How do I work it?

Also though I'd put up a few photo's, cause who doesn't like looking at FTO's? :D

Rear screen wiper only works with the factory gear shifter knob installed.

Controls for the rear wiper are on the wiper stalk on the left side of the stering column. It is possible that a pastowner has replaced the whole indicator combo unit (as the indicator breaks) and replaced it with one without wipers.

I love how all these 'mechanics' and 'transmission specialists' are terrified of fixing the gearbox  I should charge more!
