I was driving to home from work last night. After half an hour driving I realised that something wrong with my brakes.
Just before stopping, braking started to make some sort of strong grinding noise and front of the car started to vibrate a bit. Grinding and vibration was happening just before a complete stop.
Also happened all the time this morning, driving back to work as well.
Any idea whats wrong with the brakes?
Thanks.
To be honest, vibration at the front scared me a bit. So, I booked into Mitsubishi to get it checked for tommorrow.
Last time I seviced my car, which is about a month ago, %70 of the break pads were left.
>>What condition are the discs in?
Looks OK to me, there are no cracks od scrathes, however, I dont think I can understand if they were in bad shape. What to look for here?
>>Is the braking ability diminshed?
I dont think it did, bit hard to tell
I have exactly the same problem, grinding noise comming from the front and doesn't stop very well. My disc rotors are below the limit with respect to thickness, could it be rotors at all??
stock rotor, stock pads, nothing fancy. And it makes a terrible vibration just before a full stop. It almost feels like pads are trying to hold on to the discs, but keep sliding in a hopping manner. Dont forget to mention the noise as well.
Showed the car to Northern Mitsubishi, and they thought they fixed it, and charged me $100 for it. Damn think was not fixed at all.
Northern Mitsubishi has no clue about my car, they are hopeless, and will never use/suggest them again.
Just out of interest, at what speeds are you pulling up from to a complete stop? Or does it judder anytime you apply any pressure to the brakes, regardless of speed?
eg: city traffic,
doing about 40kmh--> red light--> normal breaking.
Just before a complete stop it is happening. lets say from 10-15kmh to 0.
It always happens just before a complete stop, and before this point everything seems fine, No noise, no grinding or no vibration.
