Remove metal plate around lighter?

Is it possible to remove the metal plate around the lighter? I want to paint the console and trying to paint around it would be dodgy as

On the back of the lighter there is a little gold ring unscrew that and then pull the silver sleeve off and pull the lighter through the front!

the black surround will come with it (metal part)
