Ok I found a ford mk II and it was in pretty good nic. Took it for a drive and it felt really nice to drive solid car no dings or dents ac works well :) ok the specs the car is a 2004 model and the dealer is asking for $6600 plus stamp duty, does this sound ok? Oh and it has 159,000kms on it... Let me know what you guys think.

Is that a Falcon you're talking about?
They use quite a lot of fuel... Expect 14-15+ liters/100km which will add up.

I recommend something like this:

Hi guys just an update on the whole car search...

I had a falcon checked over from a car yard through an independent mechanic and found the car was a piece of crap, gearbox issues! So back at square one.

I am a mechanic and don't get a Magna, they are absolute crap. They all leak, and their transmission is one of their week points. Get on the magna forums and you hear all about it. Shift flare, is more than common, and there is no fix for it.

Get a commodore or falcon, parts are cheaper and they are definitely more reliable.

What about a Hyundai Sonata?

Say after 2000? I had a 97 manual, and was an awesome reliable car. I know Hyundai had a badish name cause of the cheap cars like excels, but their higher end cars were great.

97 and below shared Mitsubishi engines, so may have the same problems as the Magna. But as mine was the manual 4 cylinder it was based in the 4G63 platform. Which is why I put an Evo engine in it.. :)
I just had to add it ......

Oh & if some mechanic tried to charge me 300 bucks for a tranny fluid change, I'd punch his f**ken lights out. Period.
And I am sure you did a fine job :D

$300 is for an auto flush, including oil (considering it is a flush, it needs a lot of oil), gaskets, filters, labor etc.
I haven't paid this, but on the aussiemagna forums $300 seems to be the acceptable rate for this job
Think you are on the magna forums too much. They pay $300.00 because they keep shitting themselves. You don't remove the sump for the FTO like the magnas. The filter is externally mounted and the internal one if a life filter that only can be removed if you drop the transmission.

No a flush does not take heaps of oil if you just went to a specialist with a transmission flush machine. Heaps of oil is a bit of a bad way of doing it.

I serviced a transmission on a fellow forum member, I let it drain overnight and guess how much oil came out? Close to 8 litres. Capacity is 8 litres!

After they Y3 Sonata Hyundai did a lot if their own R&D on engines and instead of using Ford and Mitsubishi engines they did their own.

Result was some decent stuff. Only let down in there cars after that was the interior. Yet again on higher models there was not an issue, but the lower models were just to plastic.

Hmm .. Not a fan...

If you got rid of the wheels.. The chrome door handles, and the rear lights... You may have an OK looking car...

But, just my opinion... Do you like it, is the question?

Not a lot of people here like Commodores, so you may get some hate... More importantly than looks, is the feel and driveability of the car ... Take a few for a test drive, so you can feel any difference in them...

All the commodores I've driven have had quite heavy, yet extremely numb steering for a RWD car, whereas falcons tend to have better feel and a lighter steering.
