Im probably going to get shot for this blasphemy, but here goes.
does anyone know where i can get a decent cruise control fitted? ive heard and seen really bad things from strathfield. but are there any problems with aftermarket ones? is it possible to fit a factory original?
im still toying with the idea.

Just ring around. They can be fitted to any car. You can either go for a dash or stork mounted unit, or one that is modified to fit onto the steering wheel, like on most new cars. The second option is more expensive (i was quoted around $650 from memory, and about $550 for the other option).
It would be good, but not worth that money IMO. Better invested elsewhere

I've managed to get a great deal for a new one on the market fitted to the gear knob. At first I was like "ewww", but I've seen it and sat in the car with it and it's very intutive and comfortable and just like steering wheel paddles, requires very little concentration to use. The problem with the standard FTO steering wheel is that the paddles are out of finger tip reach whereas air bag steering wheels move them much closer to the edge of the steering wheel.

are there any other places i should go or avoid, i have seen plenty of places selling them. but i just dont want to put any dodgy crap on the car, i'd probably just go for the dash mounted one. im just worried as i have heard and seen a few really dodgy installs where they just drill holes every where

I have an after market one fitted to my car. Its a Cruise Control brand unit, and whoever fitted it did an excelent job (it was in the car when i bought it). The unit itself is small and not really noticable and consists of a small panel (about the length of your little finger, and only half that again high and only about 5mm thick) and 3 buttons with a small red led to let you know when its active. It has been mounted to the left of the steering column underneath the "spare button" mount and seems to only be clipped into the seem below the dash console. I dont use it much but its still handy to have. Will take a pic of it and post it when i have some daylight.
