hey Jeff that turbo might be a bit big, there will be a bit of lag. but once you get the revs up and the boost comes on hold on to that steering wheel.
When you first drive it make sure when you put your foot down that there is plenty of space around you as the torque steer might give you a bit of a scare when the boost comes on.
The problem you will find is that you will need to be running over 18 Lb to get the turbo into its maximum efficency range. I run my GT30 at 18Lb now and i am building this new motor so i can run it at 24 - 26 Lb which should be right in the sweet spot of the compressor map.
Steve the 6A13 will bolt on to the Tip Box.

You'll need to beat 13.6 to be the fastest in the world (that I know of). Also a guy over here (Richard Batty) has the same engine as Danny in his FTO and it is going to the drag strip this weekendJeff wrote:for a while I`ll have the fastest FTO in Aust (? world).

At the moment the fastest tip is a 14.1 over the 1/4 mile, I wonder who owns that car

when you get to the sort of power levels that danny is achieving, it's no longer about how much power you can make but how on earth you are going to be able to put it all down onto the ground effectively (and hopefully not breaking anything in the process)...
on the dyno i'm making a little' under 2/3 of what danny is getting at the front wheels and it's already quite a handful when boost kicks in (and mind you that's with a smaller turbo than Scracy's GT28). i can only imagine what it's like to drive with a 700hp turbo on the FTO but i can safely bet you'd need a pair of balls the size of your fist to drive that thing in anger at full boost...:oops:
it's a well known fact that FWD with big HP is not the easiest way to get low ETs over the quarter mile but then that is the one challenge I love hehehe...
anyway back to topic - Jeff, at that sort of power level (assuming you're still using the stock FTO tip gearbox), i strongly suggest that you upgrade the torque convertor as well to handle the extra torque before it spits the dummy...

yes, but 13.6s was not achieved with a 6A-series motor now, was it?salacious wrote:You'll need to beat 13.6 to be the fastest in the world (that I know of). but yeah, keep us posted about Richard's ET from this weekend... it will be very interesting!

Personally i think the best size turbo for the FTO 6A12 engine would be the Garrett GT32 would be very little Lag and is an internal waste gated turbo so would save a little bit on cost by not needing a external waste gate also a ballbearing and one of garrett recent releases so it would chook full of the latest technology.
and is rated 200 - 420 Hp so minor upgrades to the other parts like clutch and torque convertor should be enough

Thanks for all the ideas.
But I have already rebuilt my tip box and torque converter. (billet steel pins, cooler, etc.) The suspension has been done, and the brakes upgraded. I have been doing all these things over the last year, prior to the turbo.
I would certainly advise anyone else thinking of going turbo to do all these as well.
I was at the workshop today, and the chief mechanic was stating if I use slicks and race fuel, the car should get into the 11`s.
This scared me, I cannot imagine the torque steer at that level of power.
He stated he was building this car as a 10 sec car. This guy has built 2 9sec GTR`s and a 9sec supra so he does know what he is talking about.
I immediately included a electronic boost controller to be installed. Initially I was going to run a cheap 2 stage controller , low level for daily drive and the second for track. But with this much power the electronic controller will allow me to dial down the boost for daily driving, moderate boost for track, and high boost for the 1/4 mile.
Most of you by now are saying what Bullsh*t, " an 11 sec FTO!!!".
I tend to agree, I will be happy breaking into the low 13`s or high 12`s, but if the workshop delivers on the HP they are talking about, and the box stays in one piece, we will have to wait and see.
Jeff
PS Stephen the tip box bolts on.

Hi Danny,
No I`m not touching the internals at present. As you have stated earlier the 6A13TT has some internal strengthening. I know it isn`t much but I`m hoping it will do. I will very cautiously increase the boost and watch for detonation. The head engineer at Subzero assures me that they have not blown up an engine in 3 years, and in fact it is covered by their waranty. I found this reassuring after he scared me with the figures he was hoping to achieve with my engine.

A sh*t load.
My initial budget has been blown, and I don`t want my wife to know.
I got the 6A13TT for $2000 including trading in my 6A12. A bit over a G to fit.
Parts are going to take it to over 10. the rest in labour will be heaps more.
I have tried to source parts myself and do as much work myself as possible but some things you leave to the pros.
As stated earlier I have already upgraded suspension brakes and box, which I think is compulsory before even thinking about turboing.
I think Danny would agree with this.
So in all, a very big sh*t load.
P.S. Don`t forget you will be without your car for a very long time. They originally quoted 3 weeks. It is now 4 and a minimum of 2 to go. ( 2-4 )
Sorry for highjacking your thread Danny.
Once I get it going I will start my own thread with dynos and 1/4 times.

hey jeff no problem, this thread is about 6A13 conversion so i am very happy to have you aboard
Your right i do agree
Just one thing too Jeff when you get it going and it is tuned up Please be carefull till you get used to it. When you put your foot down and the boost comes on hard it will scare the living sh*t out you. Make sure you got plenty of room each side of you and hold on tight to the steering wheel and be ready for the torque steer, it will be a new experiance for you. And one hell of an adrenline rush so long as you dont wrap the car around a pole, like the only person to do this conversion in Japan did.
I have been driving mine for nearly 18 months and it still has the ability to scare me.
Here is a link to my photos so anyone wanting to look dosent have to go searching back through the thread
