Just wondering what a transmission service costs on the 4sp tip 'box (you may have noticed I'm hunting around for a car - considering getting the box serviced when I eventually find a car just as a precaution)
Provided the services are kept up (every 20,000km??), how reliable are the 4speeds generally?
(Car must be an auto - not my choice - and budget doesnt stretch to a post '97 5 speed )
Tip gearbox service & reliability - $$$?

my gearbox has been rock solid throughout thousands of km's of hard driving... (race tracks and other driving)
i use a transmission radiator to stop overheating problems on the race track...
my transmission oil and filter are changed every 20,000kms... there is a new Redline ATF fluid out that i am now using which is fantastic - better than the older redline ATF i was using...
the only tip's i've seen had problems are ones which have not been taken care of... some i have seen with oil thick enough just about to be used as tar on the roads...
what state are you in ? we may be able to help you when you find a car you want

I'm in Melbourne, anywhere within a few hours drive of there is fine, will start looking interstate if (when?) I need to...
The car is for my wife - so there'll be another female FTO owner soon.
Cheers
i'm in sydney but i'm sure we can find someone in melbourne who's experienced enough with TIP's to have a good look / drive and see how it feels

will do - got a couple to check out this weeksmorison wrote:make sure you let us know when you find a car..
hmm I'll definitely consider interstate for the right car - I thought seriously about airbornespanner's car, but despite earlier posts to the contrary a colour preference has appeared - blue, followed by black or silver - burgundy is down the list right now unfortunatelysmorison wrote: there are some really nice cars for sale interstate at the moment...
