Dashboard Dimmer Switch

Post by HiRAEdd »

I have the ugliest dimmer switch known to man but I remember reading a couple of years ago that the Mitsubishi Galant had the same dash fittings as the FTO and that if you can get a hold of the dimmer switch, it'll fit perfectly.
Anyone else heard this or can comment on it?

OK, it seems like you are saying there is a factory looking dimmer for the fto?
I thought they were all aftermarket? Mines just a big old ugly potentiometre(i think, or maybe some type of variable resistor), thats stuck under the dash near your right knee.

Is there some other type people are using?

Well I've had a look at a Galant dash now (not sure what year) and it actually had the foglight switch in the position of the dash where I've got empty slots. But the encouraging thing was that it was indeed the exact same size as the FTO dash.
So next step is for me to hit the wrecking yards looking for Galant wrecks :)

My understanding was that it is an Australia compliance thing - hence why it looks so out of place.

Mine sounds like the same one as GWIDO.

Yes, it is part of compliance in Australia. So they generally put an ugly switch in. My first FTO had a heinous little on/off switch placed in one of the free accessory slots to the lower right of the steering wheel. My current FTO has a henious dial thing actually drilled into the dash behind the wheel! The Galant appears to have a similar dash configuration so if I can find a dimmer switch from a Galant, it "should" look totally factory-fitted in the FTO.

Yeah the dimmer is a ADR compliance thing.

I've got a little dial on one of the available slots near the side mirror adjuster switches. Doesn't look too out of place though. It's black, and you could hardly spot it in that corner.
From FTO to EVO......
