mmmm - let me see - I live in Sydney and spend a lot of time in traffic jams..... 1st gear - 2nd gear - stop - 1st gear - 2nd gear - stop... etc etc etc
Ultimately thats why I got a tip.....
Can leave it in "D" and save yourself the hassle of gear changing in traffic - and you can drive it in tip mode when you want to get the best performance during "spirited" driving
GPX tips are much easier to find - and depending on the driver - they are just as fast as the manuals...
"Edit - just actually READ my post. .... I was comparing GPX tip to GR Manual - specifically Robs GR manual- against Steves GPX tip" whoops... sorry for any confusion "
Its all personal choice
(and no offence taken )
Cheers
Tanya

Yes, there is not a big difference between a GPX and a GR if at the same level of "tune" and driven by two drivers of equal ability. Also, driving a manual car of any sort through Sydney peak hour traffic is a big pain, so in that case a tip kind of makes some vague sense.
However, I recommend you get a GPX manual - gotta love that MIVEC sound - and move away from Sydney where you do not have those problems. Also, insurance will probably be cheaper (depending on where you live)!
So, GPX manual and pack your things! Simple really...
I guess whether its faster or not, I just prefer the feel of driiving a manual... its sportier and can do more tricks in a manual.... thats what i feel...
I guess in the debate of GPX vs GR... I went through this dilemna, but must admit the noise of mivec, bigger brakes, and knowing it has those extra KW makes the diff for me...
this argument has been laid down on the forums that many times, but i guess i always feel that if 2 cars have the same weight, but one car has 147 KW, and the other 134? (correct me im wrong) i cant see how the 134 can be quicker? considering everything else is equal...
Whoever thinks a stock AUTO GPX is exactly the same as the stock MANUAL GR is on drugs
the stock GR manual cant even crack into the 15s!! but i will admit that the manual GPX is the go if u want the sportier feel and performance and its approx 0.7 seconds faster then the auto GPX. But i bought an Auto because i drive in peak hour traffic all the time and the thought of any manual car just tires me out
yeah those who think autos are as fast as manuals are a bit delusional.. ok the tip with better mods and a better driver might have a chance i guess... but thats not a fair comparison. and with exception of 2 freak GRs I have seen, Gavin's dark blue one and Rick's black one (both Manuals), they both seem to have no mods at all.. GRs will have no chance... of course a heavily modified GR will keep up with a stock or lightly moded GPX... again not a fair comparison...
but lets not compare tips to manuals please, i had a tip and went to a manual i should know... and those who went from a GR tip to a GPX manual should see a HUGE difference... as said already... bigger brakes and the grin factor when mivec growl kicks in...
i do see valid reasons to getting the tip of course...
ok heres how i see it - assume all cars are stock standard and both cars are driven with best possible driver
GPX auto vs GR auto - GPX auto
GR manual vs GPX auto - GR manual (this one might be debatable but i reckon the GR manual)
GR manual vs GPX manual - GPX manual
GPX auto vs GPX manual - GPX manual
GR auto - loser all the way
GPX manual - will always be winner
if you just like the look of the fto and wanna spend as little as possible then yeah go for the GR, is it worth the extra effort and money for a GPX, i think most ppl will say yes
Disrespect is easy. Respect is the difficult road to take.
and don't forget Kavman ...... his is GR manual as well
On the track his GR manual against Steves GPX auto proved the slightly faster one
Both cars have the same mods (Pods/Exhaust/Computer) and both drivers are of equal skill...
Of course - come Oran Park (and if Kavemans is ready in time) with the new cams/ plenum and throttle body....... it won't be an equal contest

especially now seeing that i'm forgoing my mods to ensure his car is ready

i wouldnt call his a freak GR, his results back my opinion that a GR manual will beat a GPX auto. but i dont think his car would have beaten a GPX manual when it was stock... which the other 2 freaks were able to do... ok maybe rick's had an exhaust, but so did the GPXs he raced
and on the track, suspension/tyres/driving skills play a higher role than horsepower anyway

Avoid the "size issues" of mines better than yours, and buy the car that best suits your driving needs.
My friends don't judge me based on how fast my car is and I don't feel the need to have to prove myself at traffic lights, so I got myself the car that gave me the most fun and ease of use. Personally I think you can't beat tiptronic as it gives you the best of both worlds - auto for day to day driving and tip mode when you want to have some fun.
As for "mines 0.x secs faster than yours", there's more important things in life to worry about, so just get a car you will enjoy.

oh yeah one more thing, gpx have more options abs, tcs, etc
and id have to say the gpx brakes are only slightly bigger, but it makes a huge difference considering i smoked the brakes twice now while spirited driving with these guys

yes thats what i used to say when i had a tip

yeah its mainly because of mivec that the gpx is faster isnt it... i've never been in a manual gpx before only tiptronic cos none of my friends can drive manual
