FTO GPX 1997 Not turning over.

I have tried to start my FTO and it is not turning over. I have plenty of battery life and when trying to jump start it is has no effect..

I looked online and saw that apparently there is a starter motor sensor or something to that effect? Is it true that it wont start if the part is defected? and this has only happened twice, usually it starts without fail and its generally healthy.

Please help!

Where you from?
More info on your issue would be helpful, how do you know you have battery life, do dash lights come on, do you hear a click when you attempt to start, do you have oil in your engine, has it overheated recently etc.....
(have you been in a flood lately if so ask Connor_1994 )+(have you had a sound system installed by JB HiFi if so ask Shazzam )
Tap the side of your stater motor lightly with a hammer, then try to start it, does this work?
It could be a fuse, a relay, starter motor, starter motor solonoid, ignition, alternator, bad earth, something else earthing out etc.....

I'd start with checking your electrical connections, battery terminals (corrosion) and trace the wires to your start motor and make sure everything is secure.

The starter itself is located in a silly spot IMO. Right undernear the drain plate for the oil filter. I always get oil on it and the last thing you want is dirt and oil over any electrical connection. I'd give it a clean and check the connections on the starter itself.

Also, when I first got my tiptronic FTO i'd get no response when I tried to start the car. THe lights would come on like normal but the starter wouldn't turn. Turned out that the gear stick wasn't selecting park properly. Try putting it in neutral and have a go.

Lastly, it could be the solinoid in the starter, if it is the starter.

Thanks for the reply's guys and excuse my lack of knowledge and terminology on this.

The starter motor is cranking but the car is not over all starting. The lights on the dash all light up fine and the lights too.

Might be worn brushes inside the motor.

The starter is turning so you can rule that one out. I will be looking at spark and fuel.

So where are the spark plugs located at?? having some trouble locating them..

Hahahahahahaha........
Your front bank of plugs is under the engine cover, the rear bank of plugs is under the intake chamber (not easy to get too).
They are all at the bottom of the tubes which your coil packs/spark leads are sitting in.

What do you intend to do once you find them?

Thanks guys, i forgot to mention. Some of the times (twice) when i started the car, it made a very high screeching noise which faded away after 2 seconds.. im not sure if this points towards anything..

Screeching may be alternator or power steering belt.

Hey guys, Found out that it was the Crank angle sensor, the mechanic quoted me 300 dollars for it and i thought it could be resolved with a lot less... Any one?

I've seen one on eBay time after time for 80 but dstocks is your best bet I got one off him for less then 50 posted I think
