Referring to manual tranmission...
Lets say 3-3.5k is the normal rev for upshifting. You will hear the gearbox is "struggling" when you upshift too early, for example, 1.5k.
That "struggling" noise has becoming more audible now. Is that something to be worried about?
Gearbox or clutch going way?
From memory, i only replace the gearbox oil (Penrite Sin 75W-85) slightly over 5000km ago. Clutch, i think it is still stock. and it has just clock over 130,000km.

Re: Gearbox noise
How do you mean you hear the gearbox 'struggling?'
I've heard engines 'struggle' before, I've heard clutches 'slipping' before, but not heard gearboxes 'struggle'....

Re: Gearbox noise
Prob is your upshifting too early should be shifting at minimum 6000rpm
But sure your not upshifting too early? If clutch is slipping revs will climb faster but actual speed wont. Could also be worn mounts shuddering under load too

Re: Gearbox noise
Shuddering is the word to describe it.
Shifting at 3000rpm is early at normal driving?

Re: Gearbox noise
na 3k is fine but 1.5 too low depending on gear
Most likely mounts or possible thrust bearing but you would hear that constantly

I reckon it's a mount as well.vipfto wrote:Prob is your upshifting too early should be shifting at minimum 6000rpm![]()

A slipping clutch sort of feels like warped rotors.
