Huge internal oil consumption
Got the mechanic to check for compression and it turns out fine. Only mentioned that the spark plugs is due for a change.
This leads to leaking valve guides. Anyone in sydney have any experience in this and how hard to DIY? I have all the normal tools and wonder if any special tools are needed?

Traditionally, this would involve removing the heads but Bennoz was telling me that Meek have developed a technique for replacing them without having to remove the heads.
Me? Bitter? f**k no. I think it's hilarious.

If you can change the seals only (I don't have manuals here so I can't check) then you can do it without taking the head off but it is a pain.
I've done it before on a "different" engine (disclaimer - there are other cars than FTOs
)
I can't remember why we decided not to remove the head but there was probably drink involved at some point.
We took out the plugs and filled the cylinder with nylon rope, making sure we had some left to pull it all back out again. Then we turned the engine over on the crack bolt until it locked up and we kept the tension on it so we could put pressure on the valve retaining cap and remove the locking collet. Then we changed the valve stem oil seal and replaced the valve caps, let the pressure off and removed the rope and it was onto the next one.
I still can't think of any reason we wouldn't take the head off but this way did mean no need to drain the car of fluids or buy a new head gasket.

Once the rope took up all the space in the cylinder and the piston pushed it up against the bottom of the valve we were able to put pressure on the top of the valve without it hitting the piston so we could compress the spring and get the cap off to replace the valve stem seal.

If your Fto is using oil I can name several reasons why it is, so you cannot just blame it on the valve stem seals unless your blowing blue smoke.
A blocked pcv valve, leaking tube seals, head gasket, running the wrong oil can all contribute to your engine eating oil.

It used to blow smoke for about 10sec while stopping at the traffic lights. Just once in awhile. not sure if this is normal or a symptom. it does not blow smoke upon starting or when engine is still cold. I googled that a stem seal leak will normall cause smoke when cold start up as oil leak into cylinder.
Know where i can get a PCV valve locally?my current PCV valve is connected to a mini filter since the intake pipe is custom and does not have opening opening for PCV valve piping. I dont think this cause the leak though...
Im have been running between 5W-40 and 10W-40 depending on weather. Change every 5-6k.
