Window won't go down more then about 1 inch

Post by Rob Furniss »

This is the drivers side window
When I bought the car it would go down but you had to be careful bringing it back up, like only doing a bit at a time or it would go back down, then one day it just stopped going down more than about an inch. It's as if it gets stuck and then makes a bit of a noise.

I've had the door card off and first thing was the front window guide was behind the rail/slider so I removed the guide and refitted. This didn't solve the problem.
I've spent well over an hour looking at it and even took the passenger side door card off to compare (that window works fine and the mechanism looks to be in better condition and everything is tight).

The window is a bit loose and can rock it front to back, angle also doesn't look right.
The round guide/window holders were loose but I managed to tighten them.
Front guide jumped off again while I was testing it up and down so I had to reseat it again.
Glass has been replaced at some stage as there are still a few broken bits in the bottom of the door, there were also some in the rails.

So what do I do, order a whole new mechanism?
I really couldn't find where it's jamming and this is really pissing me off as I can't go through drive throughs.

Someone here has had that problem before, and I think they managed to fix it. Something to do with manually pushing the window down (or up?) all the way and then closing (opening?) it with the button.
LED ALL the things.

if it makes a sound like a -clunk clunk clunk- its the motor might be reaching its used by date...

my brother has a mr2 and his drivers window will only wind up and down if he simultaneously uses the control of the passenger window... could give that a try.
