turning over but not starting

Post by djjones »

hi just finished putting a new engine in my gpx (well not new, but new for it)
moment of truth went to start it and it turned over but the bastard wouldnt start
makes like a weird bubbly noise like air and water and wont start
does anyone know what this could be? i know its not a great description of the problem
anything that i could have forgotten when putting it in?
the engine was out of a manual gpvr into a tip gpx but apart from down near the gearbox shouldnt make a difference?
thanks

moral is NEVER PLAY WITH TIMING BELTS!!

ok thanks i checked the fuses and timing, all good.
i'm thinking now it could be the sensor under the back camshaft on the front bank
its got a little magnet on the top but it fell off, i've got the one off the old engine but it doesnt clip off its wired in?

that would be camshaft sensor, not sure if it will prevent car from starting though as the crank angle sensor does.

Assume you havent left off any plugs preventing spark etc?

ok got it going. (needed a new camshaft position sensor and a bit of start ya bastard)
just took it for a 20min drive and runs and sounds fine, but was going easy on it
temp gauge was in the middle the whole time but when i got home it was hot
anything i couldve done putting it in that could cause this?
at the moment its only got water in it and the heater is bypassed

I usually drain/flush system and use concentrate then fill with distilled water,

For thermostat remove it and boil in pot of water if it doesnt open you know its stuffed

Tim just out of curiousity.....if even one sparky was not firing surely that wouldn't stop the car from starting???

nope but would be extremely rough however if its a coil pack it will prevent 2 plugs running ;)

turning over but not starting

Post by renzkuken1 »

I'm having same issues. Turning over but not starting. I'm in limp mode with no engine error codes. I replaced the input sensor and the car has had a gearbox oil change within the past 6 months. I'm so stuck it's not funny. :(
