Places that repair mags

Post by kazbah »

Hi guys (for anyone who's interested I'm still not on the road - parts were supposed to have come in last Wednesday so from then it should be another 2 weeks to get the car and exhaust repaired - heres hoping)

Anyhoo after hijacking my own thread, does anyone know a reputable repairer of mags. I know places do repair scratches and gouges but have had zero luck trying to find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Karen

im also interested in this as I have one mag that needs some work from gutter scrapes!

I know i took my car into bob jane, and they said they source a guy to repair them, but i had to leave the wheel with them and they wouldnt quote me until he took it (which i dont want to do!)

im in melb, so if anyone else knows someone in melb, and syd for the original 'poster' that would be great!

Hi again,

I have been able to answer my own thread so here is the information for any other interested parties -

Mortan & May Wheels
Cnr Hume and Cumberland Hwy
Unit 2b Homepride Ave
Warrick Farm

Phone 9601 7000

According to the guy I spoke with it can cost up to $200 to repair the mag depending upon damage, but that would be about the most you would pay. Seems ok to me if your mags are worth $5-600 each.

Although there is one thing you have to remember.

I have had my 16" wheels repaired before, so I know what it's like....
I'm sure it's different where yo go so I'll go with my experience...

For mine, it basically involved stripping down the paint on the surface of the mag wheel, and then sand down any thing that is damaged like scraps and so forth, but they can't fill any thing up though, so if you have any big chunck missing, I think they grind it down around the edges to make it less noticable. Then respray it.
But the respray is not that strong, if you accidentally drop a screw driver on the wheel from not too far, it'll take bits off the wheels. Not big chuncks for any thing but it's more than a scratch!
You definately don't get that with proper alloy wheel paint job!

So it's good as long as you drive well and takes care of your wheels!
I liked it cause I don't scrap my wheels!

Good luck though...

If you want someone closer to the city (Sydney), you can call George Dobson at 0405 184 405 of Kwikfix, or any Kwikfix guy around your area. He goes to your place to repair the wheels. The price was very reasonable in my opinion. He did my gf's car 4 wheels for around $290. (cant remember exact) But they can only do mags that are painted as original.
