Cant start my car. Wont crank. [Problem solved -new battery]

Post by Gholdwayne »

Got my car back from the panel beater which has been sitting there for about a month after the job was done... Jumpstarted fine and drove it home and it was about a 20min drive which I thought would have done some bit of good at least...

Got home and shut the car off and tried igniting it again but it wouldn't start... I bought jumper leads and attempted a jump with the tarago we have. When I got the jumper leads on the terminals, my car made sounds that I was familiar with that sounded like it was getting power from the tarago(running)

From inside the fto, all the electronics were on as the ECU was reset but i turned off the aircon, radio and everything was normal, no warning lights, nothing at all out of the ordinary.. So I turned the ignition, and all I could hear was this loud buzzing noise... It would buzz for as long as the key was held in ignition. At the same time, the tacho and speedo(i dont remember) would go up and go back down when i release the ignition.

I think i remember that buzzing sound from when my battery died at the last bonfire but we were able to start the car with Dstocks's jumpstarter fine. It could be a dead battery, but im reluctant to spend $1xx for a new one if its not the problem.... Thoughts? :?

When did you put a new one in?
Are all the leads on the battery done up?

Haven't put a new battery in yet... Its still the battery I've always had in there... The lead terminals are pretty secure too...

When the jumper cables were connected, the fto would have power from the running tarago but the fto would only buzz when hitting ignition... It would not crank

Well you need to get a new battery any way so give that a go first.
Also check all fuses.

Borrow the battery from the tarago to your car as a test?

Sounds like the battery was just run down real low. I'd pop it on a trickle charge overnight, or for 24hrs if you can. Then go for a good long flog! (drive that is lol)

Also check the terminal contacts.

Also sounds perhaps like an immobiliser issue?!

A lot of immobilisers are hooked up to the interior light power, and u said you had your roof cut off.

Most common place to splice the immobiliser interior light wire is the wires going up the pillar.

That month in the shops, your battery is powering the clock, Audio settings which draw small amount of power everyday, for a month?
If there's no faults using the tarago battery, all good i hope. 8)

Looks like you won Aza... My battery was of the obsolete ones with the caps on top so i thought i might as well buy a new one.. Car started fine so i got super excited and drove it to work...

Got a parking space, shut the car off, wait a few seconds while the electronics were on, then hit ignition again and she fired up!!!

Cheers guys for the help!! All is back to normal!! Well, better than normal, no more roof rust!

I sold my kidney Ben

You might be better off finding a panel beater who does "enough" to get the roof rust out and for good, rather than a "proper" job like me TBH... Like what Stef did...

Although I am wondering how Kate's roof is going though  - so I dont really know if the "enough" job will cut it...

Fark I'll die man, if you take my 2nd one! The harvesters wont know if yours is about to fail so it would still be worth something

But yeah, just go around and make sure its around ~1000 and worst case 2000 - like, the very worst case...

The process on mine involved a new roof, fish oils, weldings, respray up to the rear quarter panels...

Goldy is still trying to justify the $$ he spent
As long as the rust part is cut out and glue removed, there's no reason the rust will come back.

I need to get mine fixed as well :(
But i hate to leave my car to some random panel beaters.
