Consequently i read up on steering wheel replacements and found out the GPvR can be fitted with a non-airbag wheel as it was an option in the earlier model GS' GR etc - correct me if im wrong

I think you will find your wrong mate. The law states that if YOUR CAR's steering wheel came from the factory with a airbag you are NOT allowed to change it unless you are fitting it another wheel that has an airbag. Factory options mean nothing in this case.

Vehicles that are required to comply with ADR 69/.. or ADR 73/.. or where originally fitted with a driver airbag must not be fitted with a replacement steering wheel without an airbag, unless it is supplied by the vehicle manufacturer as an option for that model.
It does state that you are allowed if factory options were available on the model - thats directly word for word from the QLD mod guide.

yea, my car wont have any "version R" stickers on it when i swap the spoiler out and cops wont even know wtf an FTO is let alone what model and if it came with optional non airbags
the passenger one is completely tucked away so it isnt noticeable, they would never know - and i can just show them a picture of a GR on my phone without an airbag or some s**t anyway.
the 3 tickets ive gotten in my FTO so far all of them have had to ask several times what the car is and if i was making it up
(btw i know what your thinking - and only 1 was for speeding, the other 2 were for merging onto the highway too soon before i was meant to? and not staying in the left hand side lane on the motorway when i was only car on it pretty much)
On the market for a nice deep dish momo wheel now i know i can get away with it so thanks to the man who got me onto it
