Brake pads
Hi I have searched through the forum and have not found any answers yet.
My breaks are beginning to get a slight squeal, and I think its about time I changed the pads.
I have been looking at break pads and they normally specify front or rear, so im taking it that the front pads are different to the rear pads?
Also can anyone Recommend a set of cheap and cheerful pads, im only useing the car to commute at this stage.
Thanks

Bendix CRT (or whatever the letters are) are alright. Not track worthy, but they stop you on the road pretty wellSweep wrote:Hi I have searched through the forum and have not found any answers yet.

Yes they are different. As for a good set of cheap pads NO never go cheap pads. Always get good pads even if it's just for day to day driving.

TRW pads from http://www.racebrakessydney.com.au/
affordable upgrade. Been using it for 1/2 year and a track day and it still bites. $70

Re: Brake pads
Based on my personal experience (your results may vary) I found that on my GPX, RB74 pads and stock rotors worked better than EBC Greenstuff pads and slotted, crossdrilled DBA rotors.
I bought the pads from Race Brakes in Melbourne. RB74 is the name of the compound they use.

DB1259 - Single Piston Calliper (GR)

Is that purely stopping power for say, street use and spirited street use, but not so much for track?
I've always thought it always makes sense how slotted rotors would be effective in the stopping power because of the extra friction from the slots.. Guess it could be one of those strange phenomenon's..

Re: Brake pads
To what I understand the slots help get the unwanted gasses away from between the pad and rotors, this prevents break fade.

correct
and @ Sup try bleeding fluid always makes massive improvment
I currently use EBC green with slotted and find them great will get red stuff next time
@ Sweep never use cheap pads try Ferrodo GP2 or EBC black stuff for reasonable prices and still quality stuff

Re: Brake pads
The EBC red stuff are great pads I have used them for street and track.
The blue stuff is even better for track and ok on the street but can get a little bit screechy when cold.

Re: Brake pads
Yeah I run the reds in my HSV calipers & they are bit of pain to get any heat into while crusing around town. Brilliant on the track, but thats only 3-4 times a year if Im lucky.

Re: Brake pads
How much (roughly) do a set of front and rear brake discs and decent pads cost from RaceBrakes Melbourne? They don't list anything on their website and I don't want to drive all the way only to find they are too expensive,
cheers
