Hey guys, i seriously want a FTO!

So i was thinking, should i go and buy or give an offer to the guy down my street who never drives his one?
For the 3-4 years iv'e been living in my new house i have never seen that FTO move. It's picking up dust, leaves and cobwebs.

So i was wondering if you guys could help me out.
Is it worth it restoring the car back to it's original state? Or would it be cheaper just to buy a FTO off someone?

Also would it be hard to restore it? Finding parts and all that stuff?

Motherfucking this...

Bought an FTO for 3k off another member in the club, was rubbed back for a respray, bloke was selling it coz he was moving overseas. initial thought was "3k for car, 3k for respray, 6.5k FTO off a club member, worth it"

Craig (rock_it) even came down to look at it, one of our older more experienced members with this car, knowing more in depth what to look for, what goes wrong etc.

car was 185,xxx k's FTO GR, number 707 to come off the production line, no rust in the roof, and the member selling it was a mechanic, so thought he would have kept the car in good nick. also talk to AJ about his car, he got the HKS off the same bloke.

within 1,000k's thought there was a blown head gasket due to coolant in the oil, found out that it was a blown heater hose and 4 valves has snapped off into the cylinder chamber, so the car was running off 4 cylinders. Decided to take it to Bennoz to fix it, he took the thing apart and found so many problems with the car motor, and this was just after AZA, and astron_boy gave my car a full service, all new fluids, replaced my brakes which still don't work as well as they should (very spongy pedal) so it was a waste of money on those parts and oils and shiz. not so much a waste of booze though

took me 2 months to save up for a new motor, that cost $2000 (gr replacement) also at the same time did a manual conversion, car was back on the road.

shortly after, gear selector bracket broke, so lost all 6 gears, and my mate was driving it at the time, I was in Melbourne, so that was a pleasant phone call...Bennoz also repaired that, still need a new one.

most recent problems have been increasingly spongy pedal, so bad I don't drive the car any more, the clutch slave cylinder is leaking, so need to replace that, air con doesn't work, weird knocking noise coming from the front suspension, a voltage/wiring problem that the car doesn't idle right (revs keep dropping when at idle), fuel economy is horrid (could be several things, fuel filter, o2 sensor).

I decided that I've spent too much money on it to throw away and accept my losses, so I'm slowly restoring it. ETA is about a year to have it all done, so in the meantime I've bought an 83 prelude to drive around. it's such a shitbox but it gets me around better than my FTO.

basically, my advice is, I you are willing to spend 10-15k restoring one of these beautiful cars, it would be worth it, if you are in my situation and don't have that much money coz of study and fluctuating work situations, get something else not as cool and save up for a good FTO with no/minimal problems.

Sometimes it's more of a luck. Things may still broken at latter times even if it was perfect when you first bought it.
Nevertheless, it's much less of a hassle when you got a proper ones to start with.

other problems i've just thought of

siezed handbrake cable passengers side, was involved in a front end collision, so needed to replace front headlight as taps were broken (ended up doing a facelift conversion). bottom engine mounts were raped, missing gearbox mount, starting to get rust in roof, just around the glue. to be removed very very soon, interior was a disgusting red, so had to replace the whole interior short of seats and carpet so far, bumper wasn't supplied with the re enforcement bars and brackets, still don't have them, bumper was and is still held on by 3 nuts, passenger window when up doesn't close the door properly, there is a gap between the windows and b pillar

Meanwhile Lawso, one easy fix for your passenger window problem, as the wifes cars doing the same now for some reason.
Is begin to close the door by the door itself, then push the rest of it closed by the glass.
The issue is the lip along the roof is stopping the glass from getting to the rubber.
If you close the door mid point by the glass, it pushes it forward enough to slip in under the lip.

That at least is one temporary fix that costs you exactly nothing my good friend!

Re: you're spongey brakes, perhaps you brke master is rooted, those brakes should be stopping on a dime as you have the same set up I had in my rvr, and it was a more powerful and heavier car...

Fixed till the door is opened again lul

Replaced brake master, Bennoz thinks its the booster or the brakes themselves. will wait till the brembos go on and get the hand brake cable fixed before looking at the booster. That thing has been bled 4 times now, its fuxked

No I think its a fuxed caliper or clogged line. It could also be very related to the hand brake cable issue.

Told you the fix, go and clamp a brake line in each corner (one at a time) then test pedal pressure (car on) till it the pedal feels right, then you'll know which caliper is causing the problem.

The booster is working fine - as you can feel it come to life & soften (aid) the pedal pressure when you turn the car on.
