Been scraped by someone parked at apartment parking lot

Post by phunkydude »

Okay, i just notice there's a long scrape starting from the door till the rear quarter of my fto.
And, there's dark blue paint stained on it.

So, there's this dark blue car which also the tenants of the apartment who always parked beside me. I checked his car and found out his left hand side is scraped as well, leaving white scrape marks on the rear quarter panel more towards the back.

I measured the level of scrape marks and it's consistent.

Should i be doing anything?
What's the best way to solve this?
I only got 3rd party property insurance. And i dunno which apartment unit is the owner of that car.

First report it to the police, if he's done it and hasn't filled out an insurance claim, he's breaking the law. If they don't want a bar of it, just go straight to your insurance company with photos of all damage left by said douche. It his fault so his insurance company had to pay for his f**k up.

First, take everything down, like.u said the length of scrapes, time it could of happened and most importantly get several pics, with a ruler next to it o get proof just in case he decides to be a tool and deny it. I would then get his apartment number off the office part, hopefully they find it through the rego or act or something, or leVel a note on his car. Just make sure you have something thY holds up in evidence If it comes to it

Do not approach the person or leave any notes.. You will just tip them off and give them time to make up something..

Take photos and document when you have seen the car next to you.. Describe when you parked there and what happened.. Go to the Police and file a report of a driver leaving the scene of an accident.. Give them all the details.. Even contact the strata company if there is any camera's.. And show the cops the photos..

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE contact the offender, unless advised by the cops..
I just had to add it ......

I contacted Just Car insurance and they said i will need to deal with his insurance company by myself as Just Car won't be responsible for claiming it for me due to i'm on 3rd party property insurance. :facepalm2:

So, filing police report is the way to go? What happens next?

Yeah.. Basically with 3rd party you are not paying your insurance to get involved..

Go to the cops.. Make the report, and hopefully they will find the person guilty.. I think what you then do is work with their insurance, and the cops will formally charge him for fleeing the scene.. If they dont have insurance, then you will have to file through the local courts..

Police said i couldn't file a report as it happened in the private property thus it's under civil matter.
Nevertheless, police contacted the owner of the vehicle and gave me his name and phone number as well as the unit number. That's for me to sort it out myself. :facepalm2:
While the police said he didn't admit anything, just acted confused.

Sigh, guess i'll have to swallow this sh*t and get a secured garage.

Stab him in the kidney or crowbar him in the ankle. See what he knows then.

Got hold of him to admit his act. But from what he said, he don't even have 3rd part property insured. :facepalm2:

He willing to pay for the repair though. Need to get some quotes 1st.
