Hello.

I'm in the market for a immaculate/good condition manual FTO and there's one in SYD that I would like some nice person to go give it a thorough viewing for me.
I live in SA.

She lies bout not finding a lower KM car in as good condition... Mine has 76000km and is in as good condition... Jus sayin is all.

But looks like a decent one but for 9500 u can find a way better one for eg ... bushidos that WAS for sale... that went for about 10k and had way more done to it and looked better.

Just take the time to look around if u want a top model GPVR would be the way to go.

Correct me if im wrong any one.

Actually, that looks quite good on the surface. Stock as a rock (meaning it probably hasnt been flogged to death). Is A GPX (so technically she is right in a way). It is the top of the line luxury wise (climate control, fold in mirrors etc) whereas the Version R is top of the line performance wise (lightened, strut braces, lsd etc). So it really depends on what you want.

That number of kms is unusual in a prefacelift model (Before 1997). There is no way to easily tell, but I would be questioning that mileage in my head. It is not unheard of for the speedo to be modified when they come into the country (the seller wont be aware of this though). Having said that, youve just as much chance copping that problem with one with higher mileage anyway.

I would say definitely worth a look. Make sure you get it checked for roof rust. Pre 97 FTO's have a problem with the glue used in the roof cavity. If there are bubbles on the roof, you are looking at $800+ to fix.

If you do end up buying it, you could coordinate it with the bonfire weekend coming up on April 9 on the south coast and drive back in convoy with the other SA members that are driving across. We are looking at close to 40 cars (mostly FTO's) turning up this year.

Anyway, good luck with the purchase. I would have a look, but 3 hrs from Sydney myself.

Never believe an imports car km reading. The odometer may have only done 80K, but good chance that something like the gearbox was swapped over before import meaning it could have done 180,000. who knows.
So just go on age.

This looks a good clean car, but near $10,000 means you are up in the 1997+ price for FTO's where you escape the roof rust problems.

Anymore than $8000 for an 94 or 95 FTO is risky IMO.

Having just done the rounds of FTO buying, you can eliminate a lot by asking these questions over the phone:
1) Does it have any roof rust, or paint bubbles on roof. If so, walk away.
2) Does A/C work. If not, expect to pay $1000
3) Do all electrics work. If not, expect a lot of hassles finding the problem.
4) Has it been lowered. This was a show-stopper for me because my drive was has a deep gutter. But I'm always wary of lowered cars (This may offend some viewers.

I was attracted to it for the low kms, the lady owner

and the good looking condition it seemed to be in.

I don't think it is worth 9500 as you're all correct I could get more for that money.
I have asked her more questions about the car and then I'll see if I'm still interested.
If I buy it I'll be sure to coordinate picking it up with the bonfire weekend.

Ideally I want a GPX, Manual, Silver/Black, body kit, leather seats, less than 150,000kms. If I wait I'm sure a few will crop up however I'm getting the itch and I may need to scratch it soon.

1500 in fines
500 on exhaust
4000 on body kiits/work and paint (will have another 2000 done once i get stuff painted in a month and doors fixed.)
car alarm 500
tyres 650 the list goes on baha
All that plus 3000 insurance a year aha

i should have bought myself a 370z...

A) Paying $13k is not something you should have been proud of for scissor doors

B) Actually, that doesn't equal up to even a third of a 370z

C) $1500 in fines

To the OP:

Get state roads to check it out for you.
www.stateroads.com.au

They give you a report on everything about the car, well worth it, no nasty surprises after buying the car. It's easy for somebody to miss things even if they go and check it out for you.
PS - When you do buy an FTO, do yourself and the car a favour and get it serviced every 5000kms, regardless of what anybody else tells you (thought of going to 10,000 kms kills me inside).

second hand 370z are around 40k aha
And i'm not proud of spending that much aha it was my first car and have never thought i would for the life of me be into cars!

I haven't got much to add that hasn't been said here or in our private messages. I think you could get that car a bit cheaper, get it test driven and get an NRMA check done on it and use those results to talk the price down. Mechanical and body condition are the all important factors. Body kit and leather seats are secondary and you can easily do them yourself. When I bought mine, it had 46k on the clock. I just assumed the k's were wrong because they were low beyond belief. Three separate mechanics, after inspecting the car, changed their mind and said in their opinion, the k's look genuine, so it can happen. Irrespective, moderate k's and great condition is better than low k's and thrashed.

Just an update:

Working on getting it inspected.

I mentioned all the possible issues with the 95 FTO (listed below) and the owner said the lowest they would go is $8700.

- It is 16 years old, low kms or not it's an old car.
- I have seen newer FTO's of similar price with sufficiently more done to them. Body kits, leather seats, top range sound system, racing pedals and after market performance modifications. The kms were a little more however.
- The mags are scratched and would need replacing.
- Being at 80,000 kms the 100,000km major service has not been done which can cost about $1000.
- Being a pre 1997 FTO it will most likely get roof bubbles (due to the glue used which was changed in post 1997 models) which are costly to repair. While I understand they are not there now they it is a common problem with this FTO.

If the inspection shows issues I will get the price down further.
However if it's squeaky clean all round then my question to you guys is....

IYO Is the car a good deal at $8700?
