payaya, I want to clean it as well, since I'm not mechanic, so it's a bit hard for us to do by ourself. Just afraid will damage anything !!! or get trouble ....... !!
Do you think you can post up a more detail so everyone can DIY ??
Thanks very much for your help !!
If you are from Sydney, I will to pay for you to fix it to me as well !!
That would be for teh GR...
Mine is GPX so I will need a mechanic to adjust mine before reassembling everything....
Have you changed any of the gaskets?
I pulled mine apart yesterday and realised that it's more work then what normal ppl says...
As I was about to take the cover off, realised that there are gaskets for the cover as well as the manifolds....which I knew but just didn't think about it....
I have heard from a mechanic that once you open some thing with a gasket you should replace them....But don't know how true that is...
So I ended up not pulling them off...
What do you think?
Do you know if the cover were stuck with any glue at all?
But if the rubber gasket and the metal gasket are worn out then I guess it'll have to be replaced? Without a doubt I'm sure.
Did you by any chance undo the spark plugs as well or just left these on the cover and just take the cover off?
The manifold as well...there are two sections of the manifold, which section did you have to take off?
I think just by looking at the manifold last night I think you needed to take the second section off in order for you to see the valves?
Any more details on doing this task would help me a lot...
I guess you have already pretty much told us what needs to be done, but I guess when you are doing it for the first time it still is quite hard.
the whole manifold lifts off, so what you'll see is, just two rocker covers north/south. Its just like 10 bolts, once you get them off you can life it with easy. Funky FTO site has the instructions.
There wasnt any silicone on the gaskets.
take the leads off, as its required to to take off the covers. But leave the spark plugs in.
What i did is put the material, under the lifter/rocker arm areas, so nothing could drop inside, which i couldnt get off.
Where abouts in the funky fto site are the instructions at?
I can't seem to find them on their site..
Sorry but I was just getting a bit nervous before taking the cover off....
As I have not done these before, and it's just a bit of inconvenience if the car doesn't move after....
hahaha...
Sorry, I was looking at the wrong site....
so did you find that the covers were hard to take off though?
When I tried with mine with the bolts out, it was still stuck to the gasket, or the engine, but where ever it was stuck to, it was hard to take it off none the less....So that's why I thought it might have been stuck with a silicon glue or some thing, in which case I will most definately need to replace the gaskets.
from what i remember when pulling off the bolts, theres this metal washer type thing which is sort of stuck to something?
I cant remember, its been a while. But after you know the bolts not holding onto the head anymore, give it a yank. It wont break!
I didnt find it hard to take off. I just looked at the instructions for a EVO. Looked at my engine, and within 2-3 hours had the front 12 lifters cleaned and put back in.
So i guess im more daring than you are.
Remember to get the diesel before you start taking them out. Or you will be stuck. Or have another car ready. Thats what happend to me!
So looking at the pic with the engine bay, where the front cover has been taken off....where you can see the spark plug leads lying on the intake manifold.
Can you have a look at the manifold and tell me which bolts I am supposed to take off for this one, as this isthe one that I am having trouble with..
As I said before, I said two parts to the manifold. If you look at the manifold, you have the set of screws right behind the front part of the engine. Then you have another set where the spark plug leads are lying...
And I am assuming there will be more on the other side of the manifold.
which are the bolts I need to take off in order to take off the manifold?
That's what I was worried about...
So you don't take the allen key type bolts out...
It's further down right?
I'll have a proper read of the funcky one first and then ask later...
hahaha.....
That's a good idea.....but not sure how clean it'll be when I return it though....hehehe...
