I've been with tpg for 6 months now and at this moment in time its fairly trouble free. Early on I had some dropout issues but figured figured out it was a dodgey modem rather than tpg themselves.

very rarely is it the actual modem, unless of course you bought some piece of sh*t.

In my case it was the modem that was the issue, as soon as I tried another one it worked beautifully, in fact I haven't had a single dropout for a few months now. But as always there's a range of factors to consider. For instance, the quality of line filters you use might affect how much dropouts you get. Sometimes even the best quality filters won't do and you'll have to look at putting a central filter in for your home, etc.

Adsl is such a pain which is why I'm a big fan of cable internet. Had optus cable for about 8 years before we got tpg recently. The whole time we had it, not one single dropout...EVER. And the only time it went down was when they were upgrading the infrastructure in our area and it went offline for a few hours in all those years. Always had a steady connection as well. Never dipped below a 8Mbit connection.

Reason I went with adsl though was because:

a) Much more relaxed bandwidth allowance, used to get caught out every month with cable and we would always get capped before the months end. Now have unlimited bandwidth.

b) Knew I could get more than 8Mbit speeds once I found out how far we were from the local exchange. Now we get almost double what we had before, about 15-16Mbits.
